Windows 11 Pro (x64) 24H2 build 26100.2314
My update to 24H2 so far has gone without any issues other than I had to delete the "Windows OLD" Directory when done.

One thing I found was the new 24H2 has a smaller footprint and I have gained some SSD space back.

WINDOWS OLD Directory size was.
35.2GB in size
582,311 files
169,520 folders

Windows 24H2 Directory
22.6GB in size
138,183 files
31,339 folders

How about you?

You need to compare the used space on the C: drive... from 23H2 to 24H2.
After you remove the windows.old and the BT and WS folders.

That is how you compare the before and after sizes. :-)

In short.. the size hasn't changed that much. Less than a GB I'd say.

Here's a few Macrium backups... they are about 1/2 the size of the used space on the C: drive...

I have 38.2GB used space on C: and this is the size of my Windows folder...

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
I just compared my backups compressed size (Aomei Backerupper)

OLD C: Drive backed up with 23H2 is 48 GB

NEW C: Drive backed up with 24H2 is now 46 GB.

Still I like it that the new 24H2 shows a decrease in space for me.
Can't tell you why but I like it.

The upgrade from 23H2 to 24H2 is a full reinstall of Windows. Over time, even with regular cleaning, the WinSxS component store tends to grow in size a little with each successive cumulative update. The upgrade has started afresh with a new component store for 24H2. Pro or Home has no bearing on the size of the component store, it's the same for both. Compare my 23H2 that was installed two years ago with my 24H2 machine that got the upgrade two months ago.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

The 24H2 update turned up on my laptop yesterday. I started the download/install and then took a nap. The download/install took longer than my nap. Then I had to wait about an hour for the reboot to complete. Normally, between updates, I don't shut down my laptop. I just close the lid and put it into Hibernation.

I don't pay too much attention to my c: drive space. But then, I don't have solid state disk. Just an old 930 GB disk, with 691 GB free.

I haven't noticed too many changes yet. I did notice that the little "bell" (bottom right) now has a couple of "z"s on it. I guess to show you that it's asleep and you have no notices. I think I knew that, before the "z"s. IMHO, a total waste of time. I had thought (hoped) it was suppose to go away. I guess not.

I did notice that a few icons disappeared from my task bar. I had "Settings" pinned to the task bar. But I simply re-pinned "Settings" and I was back to normal. I didn't see any new applications and I can still play Solitaire. So I guess I'm good.

I have similar experience with Macrium reflect.

The image is about 2 GB smaller with 24H2

I would add that Windows keeps old updates so that you can roll back. If you are satisfied with the state of your system you can rebase Windows which will remove a lot of old updates. Be warned you cannot rollback an update if you rebase but it will save a lot of space. Same command as above with an additional switch /ResetBase
