When you try to download this file from Microsoft Update Catalog you are offered the following two files. One seems to be applicable only to Windows 10 and another one to Windows 11:

windows10.0-kb5017264
windows11.0-kb5017267

Has anyone managed to sort this out for those who install all updates manually on Windows 11 system? Here are two possible scenarios:

1) kb5018546 = kb5017264 + kb5017267 (you need to install both files)

2) kb5018546 = kb5017267 (it is safe to ignore kb5017264)

Update:

It seems that kb5017264 is actually the right file to install and kb5017267 should be ignored. I use Abbodi's W10UI (v10.23) to perform the updates and get DISM Error 0x800f081e with kb5017267:

Removing kb5017267 solves the problem:

For the record, here are the links to W10UI:

I think I have now a better understanding of how it works. I have Win 11 21H2 and it seems that .NET is never automatically updated from v4.8 to v4.8.1 on such systems, but it can still be done manually. So .NET updates listed in post #2 are intended as follows:

windows10.0-kb5017264 - Win11 21H2 with .NET v4.8
windows11.0-kb5017267 - Win11 21H2 with .NET v4.8.1

It works the same way with the latest update from 2022-10-25 (KB5018859). It contains two files:

windows10.0-kb5018330 - Win11 21H2 with .NET v4.8
windows11.0-kb5018334 - Win11 21H2 with .NET v4.8.1

.NET version currently installed on the system can be determined by following the instructions provided here:
