  • Staff
UPDATE 6/28:

 Microsoft Support

June 15, 2024 - KB5039239 (OS Build 26100.863)

For information about Windows update terminology, see the article about the types of Windows updates and the monthly quality update types.

Note Follow @WindowsUpdate to find out when new content is published to the Windows release health dashboard.

Important: Windows 11, version 24H2 is targeting Copilot+ PCs devices and devices that were previously using Windows Insider 24H2 builds.

Highlights

  • This update addresses an issue that affects the audio for a Bluetooth device. When you connect it, the volume is set to maximum.
  • This update addresses an issue that might stop games that have BattlEye anti-cheat from working. This issue applies to Arm64 devices.
  • We are advancing the Copilot experience on Windows. It is now pinned to the taskbar and will behave like an app. This gives you the benefits of a typical app experience. For example, you can do things like resize, move, and snap the window.

Improvements

This security update includes improvements. When you install this KB:
  • This update affects the Windows Management Instrumentation Command line (WMIC). The default state of Feature on Demand (FoD) for new installations is “Disabled.” If you upgrade to Windows 11, version 24H2, the default state of FoD is “Enabled.”
If you installed earlier updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

For more information about security vulnerabilities, please refer to the Security Update Guide website and the June 2024 Security Updates.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5039332)- 26100.840

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Applies toSymptomWorkaround
All usersWe’re aware of an issue where players on Arm devices are unable to download and play Roblox via the Microsoft Store on Windows.Players on Arm devices can play Roblox by downloading the title directly from www.Roblox.com.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

AvailableNext Step
Yes (Windows Update)None. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update and Microsoft Update.
Yes (MUC for MSU file)To get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

File information

For a list of the files that are provided in this update, download the file information for cumulative update 5039239.

For a list of the files that are provided in the servicing stack update, download the file information for the SSU (KB5039332) - version 26100.840.

I don't understand why they specified Copilot+ PCs above, when all of us who are on the RP channel got it.

It was released to the RP channel below for testing before public release, but it's meant for the Copilot+ PCs getting released on June 18th, and why they also got it.

I had 26100.712 installed (as an upgrade over 22631) using an ISO from UUPdump. I'm not an Insider.

Got 26100.863 via Windows Update just now.

I was a little surprised.

    Canon MX410 series Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier,
Altec 5.1 Speakers L-R, Mid Base Boom,

Macrium Home Premium, Revo Pro, Screenspresso Pro
All done on my VM (Hyper-v). I agree, the wording in the release could have been said better. With the recent fallout from the AI Recall debacle, I would not have said that at all! ;-)

Important: Windows 11, version 24H2 is only available for Copilot+ PCs devices.

Not....................
You have to consider the source, Neowin jumps the gun on many things. 🤷‍♂️

I got the prompt to install this from the last release preview build of 23H2 (22631.37xx I believe) and decided to install it last night.

Took around 30 minutes to complete and as far as I can tell very little has actually changed other than Co-Pilot moving and new HDR options appearing under Settings, but at least all my existing apps, games and settings etc have carried over. This update also freed up around 17 GB on my C so that's a positive too!

An underwhelming update though if I'm honest... the user interface is still a mess of different parts of the old versions of Windows, something I had hoped they would have resolved by now. For example, if I right-click on the desktop I get a nice context menu with handy Copy/Cut/Paste/Delete icons but if I click on the option at the bottom to expand the menu it opens to the old style menu that has a different design. Sure, it's not exactly the end of the world but it is surprising to me that Microsoft have still not managed to give Windows 11 a 100% consistent design after all this time.

Also, the Windows search bar is still useless at searching for installed games or sometimes even installed apps. I was hoping that would have been improved (and, yes, I have the indexing enabled). The search feature with Start11 v2 actually works better than the built-in search option in my experience!

So am I correct in assuming that I will NOT be getting this update until October? I am, once again, totally confused by Microsoft.

Brink,

Does the discovered wifi attacker vulnerability CVE-2024-30078 affect Windows 24H2? No patch for it so I assume its secure.

It's quite straight forward. If you want 24H2 now, then you need to buy one of those fancy overpriced Pilot+ PC's, or install it using by using the iso. The public release will likely start in late September, or early October. In it's current form it is not considered ready for prime-time.

That's not quite correct. Joining the Release Preview channel of the IP sends it to you post haste.

I was previously on a public 23H2 build, downloaded the 26100.560 iso for 24H2, launched the GitHub bypass, mounted the iso...done. Never signed in as an Insider and all the updates came rolling in including .712 and .863.
