I'm having difficulty with installing the 24h2 Cumulative updates. It's constantly failing. The only response is it gets to 100% then flashes to a "Something went wrong...." message and rolls it all back.

I'm currently on 24h2 build 26100.1742

I don't get a "failed to update" in Windows Update to retrieve an error code. I also don't find an error in Events Log that seems to relate to it (there's so many all the time now...it's hard to make sense of them).

I'm on Release Preview channel.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think I fixed it...

I downloaded KB5044384 and the other needed packages to create an installation ISO for the 24h2, build 26100.2152, Insider Preview Edition. I used that installation ISO to do a "repair install with in-place upgrade". Now it simply stops at some point should Update begin a download of KB504434, so at least it doesn't keep cycling through the half-hour long installation process until it gets to the error and restores Windows. It also doesn't keep on trying it at every re-start so I don't have to delay updates.

I had no really good idea what I was doing when I found the downloads for the packages to create the installation ISO. A little bit of luck, a little bit of careful parsing of the included instructions I guess. Hopefully this continues to work out for me.
