KB5079473 Windows 11 Cumulative Update build fails with error ox800f081f

The corrupt files may be in the place where the WU files are downloaded to:
Windows 11 updates are primarily downloaded to the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder. This is the default location for automatic updates. For feature updates or manual installations, files may temporarily appear in a hidden folder named C:\$WINDOWS.~BT

The fix that worked for me was to delete the files in SoftwareDistribution, to force windows update to re-download them. These files do not get checked by SFC or DISM. Because of permissions set on the SoftwareDistribution folder, it is easiest to do it from "Safe Mode".
Alas, I tried that but it doesn't work.

Hello

This is my first post here and, sadly, it's of the "me too" variety.

I have tried all the usual attempts to get this running but my install of KB5079473 gets to around 73% then just stops giving an error of 0x800f0991

i posted on some MS forums and was told this error code usually indicates corrupt file(s). DISM and CHKDSK do not corroborate this, saying there is nothing wrong.

The only thing I haven't tried is an in-place repair. My current PC is only three weeks old, fresh from the system builders.

Looking over this thread and various internet searches, it seems I'm not the only one having issues with this KB.

Hey ho.

I'm new here so I'm sorry if I'm missing something...

I'm not experiencing any BSOD's - it's just the KB fails to install.

Diagnostic info is helpful in any case 👍 It can help Zbook find a cause.

Alas, I tried that but it doesn't work.

Try running these in admin command prompt then try the update again.

Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

After that completes do this one.

Code:
sfc /scannow

The restore health may seem like it is hanging around 62% but just be patient as it is downloading files from Windows Update.

I've done those I'm afraid.

I've also stopped wuauserv, cryptsvc, bits and msiserver, renamed the relevant directory then restarted those services..

I tried to get that info but my PC Smart Control won't allow the .bat files to execute.

The bat scripts when created were designed to prompt AV.

A manual override must be performed to run steps 2 and 3.

Step 1 does not by design prompt AV however some must be disabled or temporarily uninstalled to run the log collector script.
