I have Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 but this only supports an older driver even though it lists this as compatible with the new driver. Shame really as the latest driver offers the fix for LG TVs not working with Miracast.
Yes, Intel’s driver support assistant shows I’m up to date as well.

Yes, as it's mentioned on the download page that it installs different driver versions depending on the model:

yes, the device support has been obsolete since few years, auto detected driver from Microsoft is no use, even the driver from Intel has no function, I am confused with the version however .. there are few versions out there from Intel support site :(

Yes, according to this:

Support has ended prior to September 16, 2016 as the product has been discontinued and there are no drivers listed as the lastest available. Doing a quick search says that it's not compatible with Winodws 10, last drivers were for Windows 7. Cheaper and less of a headache just to replace it with something more current.

Sometimes Intel packages drivers together in the same group and also as individual packages. The last updated driver form MS is 2014 Microsoft Update Catalog. This material has been dropped pretty fast by Intel. Other thing you can do is get the material ID code and search the net for the latest driver. Don't use .EXE files if you don't know where they come from.
