Solved Latest Macrium Reflect updates

8.1 running here without any problems, created a differential to test it OK.
--------------------
With all the talk about retired versions, I wonder if Macrium Reflect is cross-compatible between versions. For example, an image created with version 7, can it be browsed or viBoot with version 8?
Yes.

With all the talk about retired versions, I wonder if Macrium Reflect is cross-compatible between versions. For example, an image created with version 7, can it be browsed or viBoot with version 8?
Yes, as far as I'm aware the .mrimg file format hasn't changed since at least v6. I have at least one PC that still has v7.2 installed and I can use it to browse images made with v8. I've also restored v8 images with a v7 rescue usb (and vice vera).

Macrium said:
Can v8 read and restore images created with Macrium Reflect v6 or v7?
Yes, v8 is backwards compatible with all Images and File and Folder backups created with earlier versions of Macrium Reflect.

Did anyone manage to get Macrium Reflect v8.1.7280 before it got pulled?

Lucky for you if you didn't get it. There are numerous problems being reported on the Macrium forum. Some appear to be serious.
Macrium is starting to make a habit of these botched releases.

Macrium Reflect Patch Details

Yes, as I said in post #209

There appear to be some issues with v8.1....

Macrium Forum | PC does not boot anymore after 8.1 upgrade

While the first of my machines got the v8.1.7280 update this morning and appears to be working normally, none of my other machines see the update as available this afternoon. It may have been pulled for now.....

I used to be a Reflect beta tester for years, but I gave it up. They used to give beta testers a free Server license for their efforts. I still have mine.

Beta testers sometimes have a lot of communication with Macrium support, especially when issues are discovered. Sometimes it involves replacing files with test files to help in resolving particular issues.

8.1 has been in beta testing for months.
I'm surprised that it was released without anyone discovering any of these issues.

Current latest update:

NB: This update goes from Reflect v8.0 up to v8.1. As such it will perform a full install, not just patching files.
When I check for MR updates, I'm not being offered the update to 8.1.7280.
I'm currently on MR Home v 8.0.7175 running on Windows 11 Pro v 22H2 (Build 22621.1105).
How do I get the v 8.1.7280 update?

Sounds like you don't want that one from all the problems and the recall. I'll wait for the bug fixes since 8.0.7175 works fine.

With all the talk about retired versions, I wonder if Macrium Reflect is cross-compatible between versions. For example, an image created with version 7, can it be browsed or viBoot with version 8?
Yes, it can also be restored by V8.

Thanks @kado897 ! Further above @Bree gave a detailed answer referencing the user manual. I hope the good news will continue with version 9 too (y)
Yes, I saw Bree's post after I had already posted here.

Even though it has been pulled, it looks like it has a couple of neat features....
...The most notable is potential backup time reduction by a factor of 3 in example!
Yes, I've seen that in action having just tested doing an Incremental on the one machine that got the 8.1 upgrade.

There is one bug though that everyone with 8.1 appears to suffer including me. If you have CBT installed then you cannot use 'safe eject' for a usb HDD, it always says the drive is in use. Disabling CBT for the external drive is not enough, unistalling CBT is the only workaround for that, or shutting down before you unplug the HDD of course.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.
