Ah yes, here's one.

All I can say is that my 4 machines wit v8 licences have upgraded to v8.1 without issues.

Me too but I don't use CBT which seems to be the culprit here.

I do use CBT, and MIG. As I said, I have no issues.

I mounted my 8.1 image in File Explorer and spent a good bit of time restoring random files and pictures to my desktop. So far, my 8.1 backup image has worked flawlessly.

Originally CBT was designed for higher end versions of Reflect for corporate market where with multiple uses one could envisage it would save a lot of resources.

It was ported to lower end versions (Home) and originally, CBT would only work if you had not booted before doing backup. They updated it to be boot resilient.

However, it was a bit flakey, and I never used it.

I think drive technology has rather superseded its usefulness. It was beneficial on slower HDDs but of marginal benefit on SSDs and even more so on NVMEs.

It takes less than 10 seconds on my pc to identify changes with CBT off.

The reliability of it versus benefit makes me think Reflect should consider dropping it altogether for Home, or maybe do some speed tests and advise user to only use it if below some threshold.

My data points:

The earlier 7280 installed OK without any problems, I created a differential OK

The 7336 installed OK today without any problems, I created a differential OK

I guess, I am lucky, both updates went smooth

I have that "stop at about 70 some %, and jump to verify:. New behavior here, too. Odd looking. No CBT or ViBoot, just MR with Image Guardian. Ddid restores to test, all seems ok, but it's slower, not fast. SSD > HDD.

do NOT change the slider from the preset 75% priority to High 100% while the backup is running. You will lock up, screen goes black and hard power off is only way out.

After updating from 8.0 yesterday evening, I went ahead and performed a differential today and it was great! Twice as fast as before. So I went ahead and installed it on two other laptops.

My general impression is it is slower then the exact same backup on 8.0. The transfer rates are consistent at 1.5-2.0 Gb/s. The verify is considerably slower. 8.0 and 8.1 created an image of 17.5GB from an OS and data of ~34GB. 8.0 in 2:05, 8.1 in 3:15.

For me faster on differentials and incrementals, about the same for full images.

Mine seems a lot faster with 8.1

Just added an incremental to the first test backup done with 8.1. Very fast indeed, just 12 seconds although not that much will have changed since this morning.

Only see speed , faster /much faster ..............how about accuracy /reliability , 100% restoring...............

I do daily full images.
I have a 1TB SSD with 352GB of used space.
8.0 images completed in ~ 18 minutes.
8.1 images complete in ~ 6 minutes.

My 8.1 image creation is dramatically 3 times faster!

I rotate 5 images on a 2TB Samsung T7 Shield Portable SSD using a Thunderbolt 4 connection.

My 8.1 transfer rates average 6 to 7 Gb/s and are 3 times faster than when I used version 8.0.

Macrium has been traditionally slow to create full images compared to, for example, Terabyte programs. Maybe they are catching up.

I benchmarked 8.1 now for my pc against AOMEI and Easeus (both paid versions), and did not expect this:-

OS Backup
Reflect - 1 min 58 seconds, 22.3 GB
AOMEI - 1 min 42 seconds 22.6 GB image
Easesus - 1 min 48 secs, 22.5 GB

None had verify on.

Reflect still seems to be slightly slower but not by much. So, your point may be valid!

testing backup of data drive

Reflect - 4 min 4 seconds, 115 GB
AOMEI - 4 min 1 seconds, 115 GB
Easesus - 3 min 32 secs, 93 GB

Here Easeus scores over others.

Edit2:

OS backup again - no compression
Reflect - 58 seconds, 35 GB
AOMEI - 1 min 18 seconds, 35 GB

So here Reflect is quicker, AOMEI no real difference to compressed result.

I did some quick tests on my little Beelink mini PC that I have running Windows 11. This backs up over USB 3 to an 8TB external HDD.

With Macrium 8.0, build 6867, my backup of my 65GB used C drive, took 6:06 and resulting file was 30,219,009.

I then installed Macrium8.1, rebooted, and ran the backup again.

With Macrium 8.1, build 7336, my backup of my 65GB used C drive, took 3:54 and resulting file was 30,904.198.

So if my math is right, that's 36% faster.

or conversely V8 is 56% slower (V8.1 sounds more impressive that way LOL).
