Leak of upcoming features for Windows 11


There's an interesting personalization feature coming to Windows 11 - Stickers for your wallpaper.

You'll be able to configure them using a new Sticker Editor app, they'll persist across wallpaper changes as long as you don't use a slideshow, use Fill fit & have only 1 monitor.

System admins will be able to disable these using a policy called Education\AllowStickers. The single monitor and Fill fit limitations are quite strange, hopefully just an early implementation quirk.

Looks like tiny semblances of tablet mode may be coming back to Windows 11, a taskbar setting labeled "Automatically hide the taskbar when using your device as a tablet" is in the works.

With MS putting all this effort into rounded corners, new emojis and now wallpaper stickers I take back what I said in another post about MS sending teams into elementary school to ask the kids what they wanted in Windows 11. I now think that they are the kids in elementary school.

I don't get these sticker features. Stickers on my desktop, not thanks.

This ECO thing does not sound like anything new except for the name change. Sounds to me like power options got moved to settings and got a new name.

My laptop is optimized to use as little energy as possible when unplugged and as much as possible (as much as the cooling can handle) when plugged in. On my desktops I always use balanced profile. Can conserve power, but if I as much as move the mouse it goes to full power again. 😄

Who in their right mind will try to conserve power when GPUs go up to almost 300W and CPUs up to half of that when you want some performance?!?

Welp, this one's pretty useless to me. I have dual monitors and use slide show. And I ain't agonna change that just to use some kindergarten app.

Seriously, I may try to take a look at it on Little Lenovo which is a lappy with the current version of Windows 11 just to see what it's all about.

Of course, the rest of the "features" aren't anything to write home about either.

Now, if Microsoft would fix the Taskbar so we could put it where we want it; right, left, top, bottom, I'd be on my rooftop shouting . . . NOT! But it's a thought, isn't it?

I wouldn't call my view of Windows 'submissive' I simply accept that I have no say as to how it is and I just use it to run my apps.

Unlike you I don't mod or change the OS.. stock just works and that's how I like it. Changing the look, feel or any other aspect of Windows will not improve my coding experience or my the work I do with Photoshop.

But.. we all can do as we like to.

Trouble is (and it's subjective) most Windows users just want the fluff and don't give a flying fu@k about actually functionality or customisation. How many of the whatever billions of Windows users have the ability or indeed the will to look past the visual bu!!sh!t.

That's what MS are after and it will be market share above everything else.
