What is the Linux folder or library in Windows File Explorer? I did enable Linux subsystem in Windows 11. Was this also there in Windows 10?

Be aware that any files and folders you create using that WSL network share in Explorer will create everything as the root user. Within your WSL distribution you can however change the owner and permissions to your WSL user using sudo commands or by running for instance sudo nautilus (if you've installed it) and then manually changing permissions using the elevated GUI file manager that launches.

Use GCC in WSL for Linux apps and on Windows I always recommend using Visual Studio and its MSVC compiler. Or if you really must, then you can use CLANG too

MSYS2 / MinGW is just asking for trouble.

The big question here is, are you trying to cross compile?

Just to complete my answer. Always prefer MSYS2 over MinGW. That one is at least up to spec and should work fairly reliably.

Hi there.

I assume that's (MYSYS2) for building Windows "native" binary packages / applications. The WSL enables one to run Linux binaries (or a good number of them) as is - even some "GUI" ones so the two systems aren't exactly "Equivalent" in functionality or scope. I might have mis-understood MYSYS2 but that's my reading on it. Looks a good tool for those that want to develop windows applications though.

However since a lot of Linux stuff is open source it's usually possible to get the sources so some sort of "porting" to proper windows executables is undoubtedly possible.

I'd like something the OTHER way around - being able to cross compile Windows things for Linux - problem is Windows stuff has loads of propretary things in it and there's limited open source around !!!. I don't like things like WINE on Linux - currently I just run a Windows VM which is far simpler !!! (assuming a Windows license !!). cygwin used back in the old days was another OK tool for running some linux things on Windows.
