I first want to start by saying If my question is not allowed on this site/forum please let me know. If it is I would like to mention that I am NOT a techy person so please try to be detailed or explain your responses as best you can as to why or why not i should or should have something.

For reference my current laptop, which is still working and has been a good laptop for the last 8.5 years, yes 8.5 years. It is a Inspiron 15 7559 Windows 10. It was my first laptop and at the time I got it, it was a gift that I was able to spend a bit of money on at the time, fast forward to today I don't want a cheap computer or notebook however i want a decent one that can hold up (fingers crossed) like my current one has.

With MS support for Windows 10 coming to an end; the age of my computer and with a new President/ tariff's happening in a few months I thought it would be wise to check in to getting a new laptop before the prices likely with majorly increase as my 8 year old might not last another 4 years. So that being said looking for recommendations for a good/decent laptop (most of my PC's have been Dell or HP), I'm NOT a gamer, although my current laptop i believe is a gaming computer, I will likely just do browsing, social media, some office work and most likely be scanning and editing home videos and photographs.

Again I don't want a cheap computer, but I'd like to stay UNDER 2000k if possible

Maybe this one?

RTX 4060 discrete graphics, 32MB of RAM. CPU supports Quick Sync, which may be useful for some video editing software.

Seems fairly inexpensive for what it is.

I would peruse the Lenovo website. IMO there's more bang for the buck there than what Dell offers outside of their Alienware models.

thinkpad is lenovo.

Honestly as long as it is a name brand it's probably fine. Since you mentioned you only do the basics, pretty much any computer will suit you well. Gaming pc's have poor battery life if that is important to you.

Desktop or laptop?

Honestly for your use you might be fine with a chromebook. Are you using any specific windows software?

If you are, any computer on this list would serve you well:

Don't overspend. You don't need to spend a ton, since for what your doing on the computer it's pretty basic. I think spending $1,000 and up is pretty ridiculous based on your needs. PC's have come a very long way from the old days. A lot of basic systems are quite good. If you do want it to last a long time, getting a machine that's over what you need is a great idea. But while I like the idea of the dell linked in the first response, I feel that's a lot of money to spend for someone with your usage.

@andrew129260 Thank you, I actually have a desktop, of which i have an open thread about due to an off and on issue i'm having with it, but that is a different story. Yeah not really interested in a chrome book. What do you consider the "old days" ; ) my current laptop is 8.5 years old. I want to be able to edit videos, photos, Zoom calls....

What are the better known and or more current Video card/graphic processers i should look for. I think my desktop is i7 and laptop is i5

Dell Latitude(s) have been pretty reliable for me, but I also own a Lenovo (more expensive) as well as a MS Surface Pro laptop/tablet

I typically get mid-range (maybe slightly above that) but never the cheapest, or most expensive, either. Unless the most expensive is on a significant sale, which rarely happens.

Been doing it that way for the last 20 years or so.

I consider the old days about 6 years ago haha.

A lot of basic systems are really good now. When you say editing video, are you talking big fat adobe premiere like projects, or just simple edits you can do in something like clipchamp?

Something like this would be good.....

Lower end: (still great)

Higher end:

But yeah in my opinion, no need to shell out a giant pile of money for something good.

Don't be afraid to buy a 2023 model either. You can get great savings and good hardware for an even better price.

I will likely load my Adobe Premier Elements/Photoshop... and other software (my cannon scanner...) onto this PC, as my current one has it. I will be editing mostly photos once I get them scanned, but the 10 or so family videos will likely be edited cleaned up with Adobe. The video and photo editing will be for family not a business if that matters. I also have an external CD/DVD player... id like to be able to plug in. Believe me I don't want to shell out a lot of money

Been doing it that way for the last 20 years or so.

cheaterslick hey thanks for responding. So if you'd help me out what would you consider a "mid-range" Latitude model be for example? Are Latitudes considered better then Inspiron models? I mean other then the price tag how does one/me determine mid range from low end .... other then the price tag?
