Solved Lost association to .msp files

Hello!

I tried to upgrade an application by double-clicking its appname-update.msp file but instead of opening in Windows Installer it tried to open with another application. I know there is a Registry file (msp.reg or similar) that repairs association for .msp files, but I could not find it and Google doesn't help. Please give my the link to the appropriate thread to download it again. Murphy's Law says I cannot find it, although I had downloaded it some time.

That worked, thanks, but is a workaround. I remember downloading a Registry patch file (.reg) that restored the association of .msp files with Windows Installer. I just cannot find it right now and Google gives not useful results. I think it was in some Tutorial, but the relevant Tutorial of how to fix lost associations doesn't list the .msp format. I will find it when I won't need it anymore, as is always true with lost things.

I think I found the cure. I downloaded the msi.reg from the Tutorial and opened it with Notepad to see the code, how it fixes association. I then opened Registry Editor and navigated to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.msp\OpenWithList There was a value referring to psp.exe (PaintShop Pro) and another one. I deleted both values and let only the (default) empty one. That's it.

EDIT: Nope, it didn't work. Once I double-click the .msp file it tried again to open it with PaintShop Pro and the values reappear. I cannot change it from Settings -> Apps -> Default Apps either. When I click on .msp Windows Installer is not on the list to select it.
