For sometime now, periodically my laptop will experience a loud buzzing noise accompanied by the laptop freezing. It seems to happen when I am watching a video. I have tried many "fixes" such as uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, checking sfc /scannow, etc. None of these efforts seem to help, and sooner or later it happens again. I have checked with friends running both Windows 11 and Windows 10, and they have experienced this issue also. Has anyone found a reliable fix for this issue?

My Windows version is 23H2 (OS Build 22631.4317) Maintenance is current.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks

Hi,
I suggest taking it in for repair unless you are handy and knowledgeable.
It's probably one of the fans that has accumulated dirt and jams creating overheating resulting in a surge.
It could also be a problem with the power supply, many things are possible.
This could lead to more serious damage to your system.
The fact that your friends have experienced the same issue is not surprising.
Fans and hard drives are usually the first things to go bad on laptops.
Software is not the problem here, this 'sounds' more like hardware.

It is most likely not the "Fan" it is most likely > "C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe"
As it has been happening a lot recently on my Desktop PC....
Sometimes when it crashes it also includes a Video Driver in the Crash Report, but not always...
It is happening with Windows 10 & 11....
My PC is older and the Video Card is outdated, unsupported and was never meant for Win10 or 11

To see what has caused the crash - use this small Application > Blue screen of death (STOP error) information in dump files.

Power supply possible if it only occurs under the extra current draw of watching movies. I'd keep a check for excess heat or fan stopping or both. Just an idea!

Only when watching videos and with all browsers ? Any possible installed software issue ? Event logs and Reliability Monitor clear ?

May want to go to the HP website and download the hardware diagnostic tool. Other diagnostic software available online and others with similar issues.
