For those who aren't aware, the FREE edition of Macrium Reflect v8 is still available for download from Major Geeks (Download Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - MajorGeeks). Be sure to follow the instructions at the bottom of the page during installation - specifically:

To get to the free version. During installation, you need to check personal use > and agree to use the software only for personal, non-commercial purposes. Then, you will need to uncheck register this installation of Macrium Reflect.

No need to go through Major Geeks. Reflect Free v8.0 is still available direct from Macrium. The link to get the Reflect Free Download Agent is at the bottom of post #1 here: Latest Macrium Reflect 8 updates

The Download Agent allows a choice of downloading the installer for the 32 or 64 bit versions, with or without the optional PE components. For Win11 you'll want 64 bit, the 32 bit version would be required for installing on 32 bit Win10.

This is correct advice, for commercial use registration is mandatory. Only personal users can skip the registration.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

This is weird, I am still getting update pop-ups from Macrium.. :lmao:

I have found that on a fresh install of the free edition the first time it is run it pops up the Update available message. I suspect this is a gotcha from Macrium. If one updates to the latest version being offered you'll end up with the current version and only a 30 day free usage before it reverts.

Cloned a 1 TB NVME with a Windows 11 Pro OS onto a new Crucial 2TB NVME which was in a Sabrent NVME enclosure attached with a standard USB-C to standard USB cable (a cell phone charger cable), using Macrium Reflect Free - Not For Commercial Use (version 8.0.7783) [UEFI] works flawlessly.

Installed new NVMe into laptop and booted perfectly and Windows 11 Pro has been working right since.

HIGHLY recommend using this method as it was effortless and flawless.

Cloning a disk using Macrium Reflect 8


Macrium Reflect 8 Free (version 8.0.7783) - (Personal Only - Not For Commercial Use) [UEFI] and it went flawlessly.

Cloned a 1 TB NVME with a Windows 11 Pro OS onto a new Crucial 2TB NVME which was in a Sabrent NVME enclosure attached with a standard USB-C to standard USB cable (a cell phone charger cable), using Macrium Reflect Free - Not For Commercial Use (version 8.0.7783) [UEFI] works flawlessly.

Also cloned a 2nd PC's Windows 11 Pro 1TB SATA to 2TB SATA, and a 3rd different PC's 2TB SATA to a 1TB SATA to be used in a 4th PC.

Just make sure you have separate keys and change, update, and activate each key. Legitimate Windows 11 keys can be easily purchased for a very reasonable amount online.

All PCs boot and run perfectly and their Windows 11 Pro have been working perfectly since.

HIGHLY recommend using this method as it was effortless and flawless.

You might need to temporarily disable Windows 11 security features but other than that, all should go quite smoothly.


Use this tutorial as a guide, and you'll have no problems.
