Macrium warning: The following drives will be overwritten

I have Macrium 8.0, Win 11 Home, Dell XPS 17.

I want to restore all drives except DATA (D:)

The second-last dialog in the Macrium process shows the list of "Operations". The D drive is not included in the list. That's fine.

But when I click "Finish", I get the warning in the title.

This is no big deal. The Restore is only 2 months old, and I use iDrive. But I want to understand what's happening here.

It's possible that the 2-month-old restore will have a slightly smaller C: partition and a slightly larger D: partition than today. But that's the only change that I can think of. There's no danger of running out of space in today's config or the 2-month-old config.

Another possible change is that today my BitLocker is disabled. But it might have been enabled in the old version. However, there's an additional notification from Macrium that if I really want BitLocker, I need to enable it myself after the restore.

According to Google, I'm the only person in the last 2 years who searched for "macrium the following drives will be overwritten". In fact, I'm the only person since the Millenium.

And, IMHO, if it's not in Google, then it won't be in Elevenforum or Tenforums either.

Thanks.

First, it would help to have a screenshot of Disk Management, so we know exactly what you're talking about.
Secondly... Macrium is only going to attempt to "overwrite", whatever partitions you included, when you made the backup.

However...

The second-last dialog is the "Summary". The restore is only going to "do" what the Summary says it will do. Make sure you scroll completely through the summary, to make sure you're seeing all opf it.

The "warning" you're getting is normal.

I think you're confusing "data" on a partition, with the partition itself. Unless you actually changed the partition size with Disk Management or a 3rd party program... partitions don't grow and shrink by themselves.
The "data" or "used space" ON a partition will generally grow a little over time.

As for Bitlocker... I don't know. I don't use it. I've never used it.
But... Macrium is telling you, exactly what it sounds like.
It's saying: The restore won't have Bitlocker enabled, so if you want it enabled, you'll have to do that after the restore is complete.

Here is a screen shot of one of my "Disks". It has FOUR partitions (dividers).
The only way the partitions change size, is if I manually change them... myself.
The "used space" can change' but the actual partitions (dividers), don't change by themselves.
My partitions are: C, *, D, and E. When I make a backup... I only backup the C and * partitions.
When I do a restore, Macrium can only restore C and * because that's all there is in the backup.

This is what it looks like in Disk Management...

Post 1 and post 2... here, are my quickie Macrium guides...

/edit
You can "view" the Summary of the backup you made two months ago, by right clicking on it,
and choosing the items shown in this pic...
This will tell you which partitions you included in your backup, two months ago.

Then you will "know" which partitions the restore wants to... overwrite.

Warning

Since this backup is two months old... anything you've done, saved, etc., (on the partitions you backed up),
will not be there when you restore from your backup.

So if you have something like an Excel spread sheet that you've been working on for three weeks,
move it to a partition or drive (that's not included in the backup), before you do your "restore".

I hope this helps. :-)
