McAfee Antivirus or Other?

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here to the forum and recently bought a new laptop with windows 11.

My new laptop had McAfee Livesafe as a free trial and is now asking for a yearly subscription for this to continue. When I go into windows defender firewall it says this needs to be renewed. Now I was under the impression that windows 11 had built in security. Is this not the case, or is there something better I should use?

Forgive me as I am not the best with computers! :)

You can safely uninstall McAfee if you don't want to pay for the subscription. Once uninstalled, Windows Defender will kick in and it will be as good as McAfee and for free.

I've been using Windows Defender since Windows 10 was introduced and haven't had any issues.

Yes Windows Defender does contain antivirus and the definitions are updated several times a day.

Windows 11 have build in Firewall and antivirus software if you want you can uninstall McAfee software.

· Double click the MCPR.exe
· A Command Line window will be displayed, and then close automatically.
· Wait for a second Command Line window to be displayed. Note: Do not double-click MCPR.exe again, you may have to wait up to 1 minute for the next window to appear.
· After the second window appears, the program will begin the cleanup.
· Observe the installation, which could take several minutes. The following message will be displayed in the Command Line window: The machine must reboot to complete the un-installation. Reboot now? [y.n]
· Press Y on the keyboard.
· Wait for the computer to restart.
· All McAfee products are now removed from your computer.

Bought a new desktop two weeks ago with McAfee installed free for a year.
Have used Defender without problems for years, decided to uninstall McAfee.
McAfee did not agree with my choice, proving difficult to uninstall.
Revo did the trick including all those little bits usually left behind using a product removal tool.
