It is also not a browser extension, add remove programs show no Mcafee

I've gotten new computers since Win11 came out and the OEMs have included McAfee that could be activated, I uninstalled it. But there was another feature about Web Security that didn't get removed, used [carefully] a Registry cleaner to get that out.

OP after removing McAfee scan your computer for malware infection i suggest you use MalwareBytes.

You're overly concerned about nothing. No one has sneaked anything on your PC. It's an ad. Actually you are the one who gave McAfee apermission to try to sell you other pieces of the software they develope. You did so when you installed McAfee and agreed to its terms of service.
All 3rd party apps will nag you to buy/install other pieces of their software from time to time unless you turn off notifications for that app. Even then some will promote other of their products within whatever app the user has installed.

If you click remind me later, it shouldn't pop up too often. To get rid of it, either turn off McAfee notifications or uninstall McAfee.

When installing some software packages (generally freeware), installers often have pre opted you in to install other software also.
It usually shows in the installation package during setup and you need to uncheck the offer. Otherwise something else gets installed on your PC. I have seen it with McAfee and I also see Chrome offered a lot. This happens often, especially when installing a freeware program.

You need to read all the stages of software installs to check for this.
What have you installed lately?

I’d be checking it out in REVO to see if anything is listed.

It doesn't look as McAfee is installed. It looks like a browser notification popup which is annoying. I have suggested for the TS to check his browser/s 'site notifications permissions'. If McAfee has notification permission then remove it.
Setting in Edge but other browsers should have similar.

Just be careful when downloading software -- some sites so obfuscate the real download site so people who just click the first download link they see without looking at to what they are actually downloading can (and often do) unwittingly install unwanted software -- some of which while not necessarily harmful in itself can be a pain to get rid of.

Personally I'd never let "Mac Aweful" anywhere within 1000 km of any computer of any kind but for some reason it seems to be much loved by large corporates.

Web notifications don't put an icon on the taskbar (and always contain the URL of the initiating site).
