Meta Announces New Threads Features for More Personalized Experience You Control

 Meta News:

Today, we’re announcing new Threads features that help you shape your experience, like topics in your bio, follower-only replies and quote posts, an improved video player and more.

We want Threads to be your go-to app for sharing thoughts, ideas and unique takes. These new features give you even more control over what you see, the ways you express yourself and how you connect with others.

Use Topics to Connect with People and Communities

We’re testing a way for you to personalize your profile by adding up to ten topics to your bio, showing others your favorite communities and interests when they visit your profile.

Tapping a topic on someone’s profile will lead directly to conversations about it, making it easier to connect with people who share your interests – and easier for those people to find you.

When drafting posts, you’ll now see prompts to add a suggested trending topic or one related to previous posts you’ve shared, which will help your audience find your posts. We’ve also redesigned the timely topics tag to make it more prominent on posts in the For You feed, so you can get to the topics you’re interested in fast.

Adding topics to posts has become a valuable tool for creators on Threads. According to our internal data, posts with tagged topics generally receive more views than those without one, making them an effective way to help you reach more people.

More Options for Managing Posts and Feeds

We’ve added new ways to manage the way people interact with your posts – and the posts you see.

Starting today, you can choose to allow replies and quote-posts only from your followers. This builds on our Quote Controls feature, which we introduced in November 2024 as a way to manage who can engage with you and your posts.

In line with our announcement earlier this year, we’ve updated our approach to political posts and have started phasing civic content back into Threads in a more personalized way.

You can also now personalize the order of your feeds. For instance, if you’d like to see a custom feed you’ve created when you first open the app, you can make that your default.

Improving Video on Threads

Our media player is now more sophisticated, with new pause, play and skip buttons that make videos simpler to watch. We’ve also added a pinned progress bar to the player, so you can move backward and forward in videos more easily.

We’re excited to introduce these features, and we’re committed to continuing to build tools that help make Threads a space where you can be yourself and connect with others who share your interests.

Update on May 15, 2025 at 8:00 AM PT:

Today, we’re introducing updates to links on your profile and Insights, making it even easier for you to connect with your community on Threads.

Here’s what’s new:
  • Add up to five links to your bio: Many people already add links to their profiles to express themselves and their interests. Now, you can add up to five links to your bio, helping your community find your podcasts, articles, newsletters and more, so they can learn about you and the topics you care about.

    Adding links to bio
  • Understand how links perform: We want Threads to be a place that helps you grow your reach – even outside of Threads. You can also see how many people have visited the links you’ve shared – whether in your bio or in posts.
  • Go deeper with enhanced insights and tips: We’ve added a weekly recap to Insights to give you a summarized snapshot that includes a week-over-week comparison of the number of posts you’ve shared, total views, new follower count and replies on your posts. You’ll also start seeing personalized tips that can help inspire new ways to engage your community.

Get enhanced insights and tips on Threads
We’ll continue listening to your feedback and improving Threads to make sure it’s a place where you can have open exchanges, reach new audiences, and connect with people who share your interests.
