Wondows 11
Hello:

I have recently migrated to Windows 11 from Windows 10, and a problem migrated along with it.

I use a very sophisticated media player (J River Media Center 34), and until a couple of days ago, the program would launch at startup with no issues. However, on that day, the player displayed an error message related to display dysfunction.

I found out the developers use a program called Microsoft Edge View Runtime 2 to display streaming content.

The weird issue (and I'm not even sure it's a huge issue) is that if I disable the Media Center from auto startup, and open it manually after the system boots and is loaded, then the display functions are fine. Enabling auto start, the same error occurs.

Also, I can't see Microsoft Edge View Runtime 2, in Apps, Control Panel, Programs and Features or in Task Manager.

I confirmed that the program (Microsoft Edge View Runtime 2 is installed, but it seems corrupted.

I have tried all the tweaks, reinstallation, registry edits to make the program show up, etc.

I've also reinstalled the media center program, no joy.

It's a minor thing, I suppose, but I was hoping that a "new" system would correct the issue.

There are no other issues with apps or programs in the OS.

Here is the thread on the developer for the media site.

Thanks for any input.

An upgrade sometimes causes issues, you can do a secondary "repair upgrade" from disk or try SFC scan and RestoreHealth.

Webview2 is no longer listed in Apps

If you think there is an issue with it you can download and reinstall.

Scroll down the page to Evergreen Standalone Installer and run as administrator or it will complain it is already installed.

OK, that's good to know.

I just used REGEDIT to navigate to the registry and change the system value from 1 to 0 and make it appear in Programs.

Once the entry appeared, I used REVO Uninstaller to uninstall the program and leftover registry entries.

I'm waiting for the repair install to finish downloading, and after install, I'll try reinstalling again.

THANK YOU for the kind and timely reponses.

OK, I can't figure this one out.

Repair install worked great, SFC scan was good, but if the Media program loads at startup, some of its functionality is lost; if I manually open it, it works fine.

Every other program across the OS works great.

there are 2 startup folders within Windows
you will have to show hidden items.

one is the user account
C: > Users > 'your account' > AppData (hidden file) > Roaming > Microsoft > Windows > Start menu > Programs > Startup

and the other is the common startup folder in
C: > ProgramData (hidden file) > Microsoft > Windows > Start Menu > Programs > Startup

which ever the program short cut is in change to the other folder.
ie. if the user startup folder >change to> common startup folder
or .. if the common startup folder >change to> user startup folder

then try the program on startup and see if it functions as required
webview2 is very fickle.
best of luck, Steve ..

Thanks to all for your helpful advice.

As it turns out, it wasn't a Windows issue at all; there were specific settings in the Media Center 34 program that enabled you to auto-load the program at startup, and "Nothing" was chosen. I switched that setting to "Media Center" and it loads flawlessly.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best, but I'll call it a learning experience. I was at least motivated to install Windows 11 before the end of Windows 10 support.

Thanks again to all for your suggestions.

I know this is not a direct answer to your question, but I just tried this program and found nothing specifically sophisticated about it. As a matter of fact, I found it to be laggy and convoluted. I'm already uninstalling it as we speak.

Have you given K-Lite Codec Pack/Media Player Classic a try? The project is back in development for some time now, and it's one of the best I've found (specifically the "Mega" edition). You can find it here: Download K-Lite Codec Pack
