Microsoft Money Plus: how to disassociate a mutual fund or stock from it's CUSIP

I have a set of investment that were first entered into Money a long time ago and appear to have an incorrect CUSIP. When I download transactions Money wants to associate them with a different set of tickers. I know at one time there were instructions on-line on a board on how to disassociate a mutual fund (or a stock?) from its CUSIP so that a new investment could be created with the correct CUSIP. The CUSIP is not accessible to the user; it has to be modified using an OFX file.

Does anyone know of a resource in which I can investigate this process/problem?

I use Money 2005 which is the latest UK version of MS Money. I also use MSMoneyQuotes to download share and fund prices. The site explains how to find the correct stock indices needed.

I have 25+ years financial transactions in my Money file and fear the day MS Money won't run in Windows. My backup plan is then to run it in a Windows Virtual Machine which I've proven using a Hyper V Windows XP VM!

BTW, I've run the app on Windows 11 as well as Windows 10 and it behaves the same way. Certain things don't work or don't work well. I have found that there are easy work arounds, but no brick walls. I really haven't had much problem with new operating systems over the years, though I don't use the full capability of MSMoney that I once did. BTW, eight years ago and with much older hardware I tested MSMoney in a VM. It worked fine. I simply didn't see the need to continue in that fashion.

My basic problem is that MSMoney permits only simple buy and sell transactions when recording a Mutual Fund event. A short sale, for example, is disallowed. Conversely, when in MSMoney I assign an ETF as a stock, then all the transaction types for stocks apply. Years ago, I bought some ETF's and described them as stocks in MSMoney. I could download transactions and quotes directly, though later when quotes were turned off did so via qxf files. Then I moved the account to Vanguard, which describes the ETFs as mutual funds inside the qxf file downloads. Yet, the CUSIP numbers are the same and MSMoney uses the CUSIP to keep track of the investment. At present, it looks like I need to remove the CUSIP from the older investment transactions to make the downloads from Vanguard seamless. But, my problem is worse in that I have the same investment at a commercial quality trader, Interactive Brokers, which treats and describes ETF's as stocks (not MF's) in their qxf files. For now, I just want to properly rename the older transactions, which requires a change of the CUSIP. Keeping the transactions around is necessary for basis and gain calculations for income taxes.
