Microsoft reevaluating approach to AI in Windows 11

 Zac Bowden:

As part of Microsoft's effort to "fix" Windows 11 this year, I hear the company is reevaluating its approach to AI on the platform, with plans to reduce/streamline many of the Copilot buttons and experiences found across in-box apps.

Copilot and AI will remain an integral part of the Windows platform, but I understand that going forward, Microsoft is going to be more tactful and deliberate about where Copilot shows up across the OS.

I also understand that Windows Recall is being reevaluated too, as its current implementation has failed to resonate with users. Microsoft still thinks the concept is strong, so it might evolve into something else down the line.

For sure, leave it out of my medical treatment, I still have some living to do! After all, with the AI models all trying to prevent themselves from being shutdown, they might just consider me a risk and snip... I'm gone!

I think it could be a good aid for diagnostics, just as long as it does not go beyond being an aid.

AI has its uses e.g. hearing aid technology has really advanced in last few years.

It has no place replacing/ruining thinking and that is what MS etc fail to understand.

Again, not as it stands now. Ai is as smart as a 3 year old at this point in time. Not for making life changing diagnosis in patients.

They are only going to look at removing Copilot from Paint & Notepad. Copilot is not going away.
Nobody said that. We are saying stop shoehorning it into everything. Keep the Co-Pilot app. Done. Leave it there. Don't bake it into Office (for hells as well sure don't change the name of Office to Copilot), Don't bake it into edge and bing (terrbile), don't put it into any of the other software. Keep the app. Move on and invest in UI, Human coders, mobile, Surface, Xbox. NOT Ai only.

The typical shortsightedness of Nadulla. He's like Jim Balsille of Blackberry. Hyper fixated on one thing. Not seeing the bigger picture. JIm destroyed Blackberry by being hyper fixated on getting an NHL team for Hamilton ON. and let blackberry rot on the bush. The same is happening to Microsoft, only much slower. Since Nadella axed mobile, it's been a slow down hill slide for MS and consumer satisfaction.

Yes, the stock price shot up since he took over and that's all tha matters to some, but the consequence of that is the 440 billon dollar flush down the pooper is the result. If he was not a hyper fixated individual, he could have still got the stock price through the roof with Azure, don't waste billions buying business facebook (what a crock that was), and pursued mobile, devices and other areas that they were leading in like AR with Hololens. Years before the vision plus existed. But nope, he's not a leader by any means.

Could it really be that MS is "listening" to its consumer base? What a radical concept for them!

I regard it as a small step forward, but perhaps I am being naive ...

Have a great day.

In all seriousness, it's very likely the article that prompted this thread was published two months early. It's more reasonable to believe MS would pull an April Fool's joke than to suddenly start listening to complaints from the people whose computers are being wrecked by Copilot.

Again, not as it stands now. Ai is as smart as a 3 year old at this point in time. Not for making life changing diagnosis in patients.
"could be" is what I said 🤷‍♂️

Please leave Ai out of medical unless it gets WAY WAY SMARTER than what it is now.
Do you have any idea about AI use in medical environment?
That something completely different from the AI that's available on the Internet / through ChatGTP or any other AI engine that learns from Data on the Internet!
One of the applications they use it for is surgery by robots. Robot control programs learn from operations that have been done in the past and from data that is especially brought in by medical trained staff. And exactly such surgery is what saved my wife's life some years ago!

As my wife is in healthcare, yes. I do. Thanks for asking. I stand by what I say. It will have to get MUCH better/smarter before I trust it to diagnose anything more than a common cold. That was not Ai, that was a program that has been coded 100 percent by humans. Not Ai let run wild with "intelligence".

Thinking about getting an eGpu for this system to take on the road with us.

Like I said, bring back Steve Ballmer, or even Bill Gates.
How did MS lose 440 Billion?

How did MS lose 440 Billion?
The market spoke regarding their Ai ventures. Simple. Investors got spooked because users got pissed at how MS was handling Ai EVERYWHERE. They devalued the company by 440 billion dollars. A huge sell off of stock at lower prices lowers their market cap which affects a whole bunch of things.
