Windows 11
I've had Win 11 for a little over a week and I'm encountering my first serious bug.

Now when I use Alt+Tab to switch back and forth between two programs it brings up the other program OK, but there's no focus. I have to click on something on each one, each time, in order to be able to input data of any kind.

I'm used to having the focus resume at the same place I was on each program, each time it comes into the window screen. Having to click to gain focus is becoming a real hassle, real quick. Any ideas on what causes this and if it can be fixed?

For me ALT + TAB brings up the opened tabs on the browser. WIN KEY + TAB bring up different opened apps and new Desktop.

WinKey+tab brings up a window showing all of my open windows in a single screen. Do you have a different build?

Alt.+Tab switches programs on my computer. I can go from a browser window to Outlook and back by using that. Or I can pick any of the open programs on the computer the same way.

I press and hold the ALT key then tap the TAB key to scroll through. Shows all open tabs and programs. WIN + TAB shows one opened browser tab and programs and other desktops and can use mouse to select.

What I posted on yours on the Win10 forum:
Having a few moments I played with the Alt + Tab, seems to work okay on my 2-month-old 14" Notebook with Win11 Pro. I have 4 items open, Alt + Tab shows all 4 and holding down the Alt allows Tab highlighting each in turn then releasing the keys on the last indicated brings it to the forefront. A change in the Peek only allows the click, not the temporary hover of Show desktop.

I'm a Hot Corners person but decided to try this for fun.

If I ALT TAB, all opens app shrink into a line. TAB-bing rotates thru them. When I'm on the one I want I simply let go and it's selected, with no need to 'focus' if I follow your meaning. It's already 'focused'.

Yes, mine works the same way. However, if you're working with only two programs and exchanging data between them, alt+tab is a quick way to switch between them repeatedly. My complaint was that when each program opens in turn I couldn't type into each program or scroll the data on a list I'm working on without first clicking on something on the screen to put focus on that screen. It just ignored my keyboard entries until I had clicked on something first.

I see. Okay. I opened Librewriter and Google Docs. I alt tabbed and simply began typing in each. Both performed as you request. However, in Libre Impress (presentation), the typing was perceived as an attempt to change settings.

So maybe it's an app by app situation?

I see this was started Dec. 19, two weeks ago. I haven't experienced much improvement in how Alt.Tab is working. When I change programs Windows doesn't see that program often and I have to switch them another time or two before it does register that program again.

I can add a newly realized annoyance to the list too. Whenever I plug a newly used USB into the computer, with Windows 10 a new window would open to that USB showing it's contents. With 11 I have to use file explorer and find the USB drive under This Computer and click on it to open that USB. After I finish with the USB and go to replace it with another, it doesn't hold the window open; as soon as its unplugged it closes so I have to go through the process with file explorer again to open the USB I just plugged in.

I don't usually do this even once a day, but I'd guess there are some users who have a need to change USB's frequently.

Check your Autoplay settings. Should be like this if you want to open the content on plugging in.

There is a tendency to move away from automatic opening USB storage devices in modern operating systems, it used to be the default to allow automatic access to USB storage devices, but the increase in the malware that relies on this the default has been reversed so it needs to be "allowed" In later systems

Yeah! Thanks Fabler2. Mine looks a lot different but I did find a setting for "Choose auto play defaults" and set it to open folder to view files. That did fix that problem. I'm surprised that the default is to not have folders open. It seems that it that bothered someone they would look for a way to disable it. Thanks for another good solution from elevenforum.

Yes, plenty of choices. Just remember to remember to turn off Auto play if you get a flash drive from someone else so that you can right click the drive in File Explorer and scan it with your antivirus/malware program. Better safe than sorry.
By the way the on/off switch is at the top. See the image I posted.

I just noticed that Bluetooth is turned off on my computer. That may be why I don't see the screen shot you posted. I haven't had any reason yet to turn it on.
That's odd. The AutoPlay switch should be just above the 'Choose AutoPlay defaults' list. It has nothing to do with Bluetooth being on or off.

OK, I had to click on AutoPlay in order to see it. It's not there if you just click on "Buetooth and devices". You have to go down that list to "autoplay" and click there. It was "ON" by the way but first choice under "Choose AutoPlay defaults" was set to "take no action".

I guess it would be wise to investigate the choices available under everything that has a choice that can be made. I'll try and remember that when I have time to kill again. Could be a long process.
