My old TV 43" LG ULTRA HD 4K TV - 43UF770V | LG UK LG WEB OS UF770V works perfectly with my old ASUS G752VSK laptop.
Bought a brand new MSI Stealth 18 AI Studio A1VIG (4090 GPU Model [best]) & it will not connect to my TV. When I try to mira cast the TV recognizes & warns that my username is trying to connect but fails.
My Android phone connects fine; the problem is the computer not the TV.

Ran Dxdiag & can't see any issues; a bit reluctant to post 78 pages of how to hack my computer. Can anyone give any guidance? I ran a Windows Update the other day which failed completely & had to completely reset my Windows. 1st time ever had anything like that. In reality this is a very modern computer & would've come out of the factory capable of Miracast. Graphics Card is working perfectly; often updating the Graphics Card gets worse showing cursor mirroring on other monitors... It's working fine atm. Hate updating - more often it causes more problems than it fixes; we only have had to watch the news recently to know this! Was not working last week when the laptop was updated to most recent.

Not saying it doesnt..just in case..dummy me bought a pc 2 years ago thinking it had wifi support..nope had to buy a wifi board and install using the screw on antenna and bam..we all miss things so if that isnt it..then other things could be Antivirus blocking the connection or outdated drivers or your PC actually has support for chromecast NOT Miracast and yes they are different in their own right.

Thanks, I may have to eat my hat sir - I absolutely cannot see how a £4,100 laptop cannot Miracast to a TV my laptop 5 years ago could & Android.

I searched my Dxdiag log file for Chromecast - no results; so assume it is not Chromecast.
Miracast: yeilded six results in the 78 pages:

1 - Miracast available, with HDCP
2 - Miracast: Not Supported by Graphics driver
3 - Miracast: Not Supported by Graphics driver
4 - Miracast: Not Supported by Graphics driver
5 - Miracast: Not Supported by Graphics driver
6 - mcrecv:, {FA6D33D4-9405-4BA5-9983-12604AC8E77A}, Miracast Sink Scheme Handler, Preferred

Any other suggestions? There seems to be a contradiction stating the graphics card does not support Miracast - then it says it does (at bottom). Also MSI states that all laptops for the past decade or so definitely supports Miracast with HDCP.

  • Attached DxDiag.txt report if anyone can help
  • Updated graphics card via NVDIA GeoForce Driver
  • Reset TV to factory settings & reconnected WiFi router
  • Ensured VPN is disconnected
  • Disabled all firewall
  • Added WUSDFHost.exe to firewall exception (though should be irrelevant anyway as firewall is off completely)
  • Removed Display Adapter from Device Manager forcing a reinstall

It actually shows that your PC supports Miracast. The question is whether your TV does. Have you tried to Cast from your PC to see if you see if your TV is shown in the list?

Are you sure that your TV is using Miracast? There were older similar technologies before Miracast. They worked in a similar way but were not compatible to Miracast.

For example I have an old Samsung TV that I bought in 2012. I think it supported something called SmartView. I could display my old Samsung S7 phone's screen on it. I still have this TV but nothing I have now will display on it since they all support Miracast.

I have two laptops. They can both can cast to my newest TVs. Note that they both PCs support Miracast. However, none of the GPUs support Miracast so I consider that information irrelevant since Miracast does work.

Computer #1: ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2022)

My devices that support Miracast

#2: Samsung Q70D 55" 4K QLED TV (2024)
#3: Samsung BD-J6300 Blu-Ray Player (2015)

Here is an example with laptop #1 connecting to TV #1:

1. Click on Wi-Fi icon on taskbar.

2. Click on Cast (if you don't see it it can be added)

3. Select TV from list of available compatible devices. Note once you select the TV you might have to use the TV remote to select to allow the connection from the PC.

4. Once connected you can use select how it connects (duplicate, etc.). You can also disconnect the TV here.

Thanks, as per OP the TV connected to old laptop via Miracast fine. Thanks for drafting a user guide though this is not the issue & them type of menu's are specific to build versions of Windows - n.b. how mine is different to yours. Nonetheless the protocol being used is not the issue; far more advanced than that.

  • The TV has Miracast - can connect with my Android & old laptop fine. All permutations of settings changed & experimented with - no joy
  • The new laptop has Miracast - I believe there to be a restriction on the laptop; thought it was the firewall & it's going to be something from the laptop's end blocking it
  • They are clearly both Miracast
  • TV usually appears when looking to cast

Any other ideas? Also tried:

  • Modem Advanced Settings - trying all different "mode" settings
  • " " " - disabling 5GHZ & going through 2.4 GHz

Any other ideas? It seems the Graphics Driver does not support Miracast - but the Integrated Graphics Card does.

Seems the TV is detected less often nowadays.

I have additonally tried below:

• Contacting MSI - they are useless
• Event Viewer - WLAN-AutoConfig - Diagnostic & Event logs attached; cannot see anything relating to connecting to the cast device
• Turned off Hypervisor as recommended in this thread
• Tried steps as recommended by Nvidia - not well written & assuming step 2.11 relates to Control Panel > Battery > Minimum Processor State?

At an absolute loss as what to do. Have lost so much time on it it is beyond ridiculous. Grabbed my old laptop - connected instantly. Grabbed the Android - connected instantly. Issue is clearly the laptop.

The cure is usually updating the wireless driver. Download the official driver from manufacturer, probably Windows Update installed some generic wireless driver that doesn't work for Miracast. Visit nVidia and download the latest mobile driver for your card as well.

Thanks, I updated the Wireless Driver sometime ago. Leaded to a load of bloatware being installed (Intel Killer Software...). Made no difference sadly.
Updated the Gaphics Card/ Driver so many times I've lost count though I don't think this matters ultimately - because DxDiag states the Graphics Card does not support Miracast - the integrated Graphics Card does over WiDi.
I thought it may be a port issue; but it seems WiDi is a dynamic port, changes as required/ available ports are available.

Sometimes it helps if you remove the computer from the list on TV (more like how you tell computer to forget a WiFi) and connect it again like is the first time.

Thanks - I didn't know that was an option. I've tried resetting the TV to it's default setting so this would've been done, but to exhaust this I just tried:
TV > WiFi Direct > the computer is there available to join from the TV with full signal; no options to forget howsoever worded... I tried connecting from the TV requesting the connection but surprise - no joy.

Even if you succeed to connect, signal is not very strong and the picture may have artifacts. An HDMI cable will give better picture and higher resolution than 1080p.
