I received an email yesterday from Microsoft (legit)

Start email ======>
[Monthly Reminder] One or more of the folders in your mailbox are named incorrectly.
One or more folders in your mailbox are named incorrectly.
The name of one or more of your folders includes the character "/". Folders with names that include this character can't be downloaded to your IMAP e-mail program. Please remove the "/" character from the folder name:
  • ********/Termicide (Suncorp Insurance/********/Termicide)
<====== End email

2 observations:
  • “Monthly Reminder” is a weird subject line because:
  1. I have never received one of these emails before
  2. The folder has been named this way for 3 (closer to 4) years.

So in that regard, this alert process must be a new thing?
Upon going online to Outlook.com to investigate, all emails were missing from this folder.

  • Until receiving this email, that folder has in fact, always downloaded (or synced upload) to my local/remote IMAP folder.
    • Syncing when opening Outlook removed the mail in the local folder as it had online at Outlook.com (Normal)

This is one reason I have a PST file in outlook, any important mail gets copied to my PST file. The PST file is backed up to two different locations.
There were about 30 emails in that folder, I know this due to having copied them to the PST sister folder.

There is a question here: Has anyone else ever received one of these emails or can I assume it’s a new thing? [Monthly Reminder]

It would be strange if your ISP had a Geo block. The whole point of webmail is to be able to access it from anywhere. Depends on what propaganda they read into I suppose. Maybe there are a few countries they might block, but I doubt you would be traveling to any of them.
