Hi All,
When I upgraded to Windows 11 I changed my mouse pointer icon from the default white to a little larger green one I had found years ago and always used in Windows 10. Every so many days since upgrade I will turn on my monitors in the morning and find the mouse is back to the default white pointer. This is bugging me because it is only a simple mouse pointer.
Anyone else noticed that, or do your custom pointer stick always?

cheers

Thanks for the reply. I looked at that and it is the accent color i set for title bars and windows borders. That should not have anything to do with the mouse pointer right?

I also set my mouse to Extra Large Black along with the Scroll Wheel to 1 line at a time instead of the default 3 lines, easier for me when reading documents. I usually use Control Panel, Mouse to do it but Settings has a place.

I just find it weird that I have been using these custom color mouse pointers for years and never had them go back to default pointer.
I have always went to Bluetooth & Devices> Mouse> Additional mouse settings>Which opens Mouse Properties> Pointer tab select Browse and select mouse .cur file and apply. And I also set the size to be a bit larger.

I'd wonder if maybe sometime back you had gotten some add-on software for the mouse and through Upgrades it hadn't gone away. I got my first computer in '92 then after retiring in '94 got a job in a computer store and starting building computers, the default mouse choices for standard mice haven't change much in all those years. Third-party mice such as for gamers and trackballs can come with or have available software to customize.

That's where I had to go in Windows 11 to actually find the mouse properties to add a custom cursor. The custom .cur is in the Windows\Cursor folder.

@Berton I don't have any add-on software for the Logitech usb mouse. I only have what Windows 10 and 11 updated through WU. I didn't change anything other than the .cur file for the mouse. This is a new MB and I only used the Windows 8 Pro key from old MB to install Windows 10 Pro fresh. So not possible for any old add-on software to be on this computer.

Do you have multiple machines? Do you use Syncing? Is it possible the cursor is changing due to Syncing?

Thanks for the reply. Both my desktops (Z270 and the newer one Z590) have same mouse pointer. I left the same on on that system when I gave it to my wife. That system is Windows 10 Pro and have not attempted to upgrade to Windows 11. I disabled sync on all my systems.

It is unclear why Microsoft does not include the cursor in the saved deskthemepack. It seems that you can add them manually.

Why are you trying to use an addon colored mouse pointer. It is native to windows now. How to Change Mouse Cursor Color on Windows 11
I use it because it is quick and easy. Place the cur file in the 'cursors' folder and select it and was always there on screen. it just randomly changes back to default white pointer which I find strange. A similar thing is happening to Firefox browser, one day it will be on my 2nd monitor, then another day it will open on the main monitor and I drag it back to 2nd monitor. Seems Windows 11 don't keep some of the personal settings the user makes.

Seems Windows 11 don't keep some of the personal settings the user makes.
change the cursor pack to the one you want. Go to theme settings for the theme your using, change the cursors/pack but Save the theme. Name it whatever, but when saved the theme you have always stays on, Including your cursors. Easy peasy lemon squeezy..lol

@Edwin, Thanks for the reply. I do that each time but every few days for some reason Win11 decides to put it back to the default white cursor. I set the same one on the Z270 back in 2017 and it has never changed. Got to be a bug in Win11.
Actually I have to correct that statement...Every time I install fresh on the Z270 I selected that same cursor and it never changes.

cheers

Do you change the theme often?
There used to be a setting in Windows 7:

... maybe it's happening automatically! 🤷‍♂️
