Recently, my mouse has started responding to fast. That is, a single click on a Desktop icon should highlight the icon. It opens the app with a single click. Not always - if I can discipline myself and concentrate on a FAST click, the icon is highlighted - most of the time. Even then, single clicks will open apps or open emails, or open close apps. Take, for example, Excel. I have it minimized on the Taskbar. Frequently, a single click will result in Excel Maximizing and, instantly Minimizing again.

I've been to Control Panel>Mouse Settings and have 'Double Click' Speed almost as far to "Slow' as I can get it.

Sounds like the mouse button might be sticking. Do you have a spare mouse to test?

What kind of mouse? What kind of computer? Details, details.

I have had a similar issue with wireless mice for a long time now. It makes me crazy when I am in a text editor. It's always selecting something that I don't want. It takes twice as long to get things done.

I tested it with 6 or 7 different mice (I have a whole box of mice). Wired USB connected mice do not have a problem. But wireless mice with a dongle all have problems. They all have different settings but all exhibit the same issue. I only found one wireless mouse that works correctly. It's a old Logitech with a USB wire to a RF Receiver unit. It's a little clumsy, but works correctly and doesn't cause the extra clicks.

I tried every setting I could think of, but haven't found anything that works.

This computer is connected to my IC-735 radio.
It sounds like it may be a USB or signal issue.

Can you disconnect all the non mission critical USB devices (e.g. printers) and test the USB aerial in different USB port.

PS. Wi-Fi mice can do funny things when connected to USB hubs.

Thanks for the replies. It'll take a few days to borrow another mouse. Meantime, I'll change batteries.
The dongle and the mouse are 2' apart - line of sight.
Just a thought? Could the mouse have a different app? to adjust settings?

Touchpads often have vendor (e.g. Synaptics) provided software but most mice are plug-and-play and use Windows settings.

There are third-party apps for mouse settings (normally for gaming) but I cannot say that I have ever needed/used one.
