I just got a new laptop and updated everything which included Windows 11 22H2. Microsoft decided to get even more we-we-we-we-taded by completely messing with the My Document folders (NO, I am NOT going to call it "user files" because I'm not anti-design or completely incompetent).

How do I move the My Document folders BACK to the My Documents parent folder? Here is a screenshot where all the items in the red box labeled as "2" belong back in the green box labeled as "1".

Somewhat related: the thumb drive I'm using is also being completely inappropriately added as a direct folder to the Desktop as a direct-child folder. Technically a separate issue though I'm not sure how to slap that obnoxious issue in the face either yet. I'd be grateful for any competent/well thought out help.

Without seeing the properties of the documents, I'm gonna take a guess here that your documents location is onedrive.. Now, when a user account is created in Windows and is a Microsoft account, Documents, Desktop, and Pictures folder location is Onedrive, not your user account folder. You can prove where the folders are located by right clicking on the folder, select properties, location tab.
If the location is onedrive you can move them back to your user folder.

Regarding your explorer window , it appears totally different from mine. Are you using some 3rd party app that alters the GUI? I see no drop arrows to collapse any entries. My external drive shows twice unless I collapse This PC (I have file explorer set to This PC by default- See the arrows to left of entries) I have also disabled having my personal folders above the drives. I now use quick access in left pane for personal folders.

I never mentioned Microsoft One Drive, everything is locally stored on the SSD inside of the laptop.

I did explicitly mention My Documents and refused (and still do) to refer to it as "User Files". My Documents has been buried with garbage like "Libraries", "Quick Access" and now "Quick Access" renamed to "Home" in Windows 11 22H2. I have been using Windows since 3.1 when 16MB of RAM was a luxury.

I want my left folder pane to be the opposite of what Microsoft wants: organized! The drives should only appear as child directories of "My Computer". They're just literally spamming everything all over the place.

Here is a small part of a screenshot from my desktop with Windows 10:
  • Notice how all of the My Document folders (Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos) aren't visible since I've collapsed the My Documents folder?
  • Notice how even if I had 50 USB thumb drives connected none of them are displayed since I've collapsed the My Computer folder?
  • Notice how I haven't figured out how to kill off the pointless/redundant Libraries garbage in Windows 10? I have figured out how to kill off the Libraries folder for Windows 11 oddly enough however that registry setting does not work in Windows 10.

🤨︀

It's clear that you didn't read my second post, maybe give it another go.

Again so this is explicitly clear: the point of this thread is to move the My Document folders (Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos) from Desktop back to My Documents for Windows 11 22H2.

I'm sorry for the confusion. Per the screenshot I sent, I do not see that. I have no idea what has been done to get your folder structure in it's current condition. All I can see is your folder tree, not the properties of each folder. But I do know what I would do if it were mine. I would copy all my personal files to an external drive, make a new local user account (an administrator account)with a proper folder structure, copy the files into the correct folders, then delete the current account. (Note: you can not MOVE files from one user to the other which would mess up file permissions. They have to be copied to external media first)

You can then use Brink's tutorials to further modify what you see in file explorer to get it to your liking. Scroll down to the F section here

This may or may not be what you want to do for the documents folder.
