On the previous build it accepted my B550 on my second PC just fine. I have just checked the windows insider page in Settings and now it shows "Your PC does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11. Your channel options will be limited".

I had updated my BIOS fairly recently but did reenable ftpm (the B550 doesn't have a slot for a TPM module).

I was wondering if I should get a motherboard further up the range.

It's interesting, which exactly restriction(s) became more strong in the last build? Could you check this using one of checker utility? At the same time, you should be able to switch to Dev channel either in Settings or by modifying the Registry (look also at my notes in Change Windows Insider Program Channel in Windows 11 tutorial) and remain on updating channel because Release Preview isn't available yet.

I have the Asus Z270 MB with i7-7700k and TPM Module installed and got all CU updates through windows update and installed without a problem. Crossing fingers that it keeps going that way.

cheers

I live in Canada and was all sold out for a long time. I checked everywhere for a week or so. I had to get my daughter to buy one that I seen pop up one day on Newegg.com in USA a couple months ago. I think all are hard to get or sold out in minutes or come with an outrageous price. Wishing you luck.

You should not need a module, waste of money, it's inbuilt into the CPU you just enable AMD fTPM in the bios. Under Boot.

I've not been able to find an Asus TPM module thats compatible with the x570 mobo on my first pc.
The ASUS motherboards have been fitted with the chipset TPM for some time, they have a list on their website (I think it's been posted on this forum too) they are supplying a BIOS update for Win 11 Compatibility, which basically just switches the TPM on in the bios, something that's a 1 minute job in the BIOS

They still include the header in on boards to allow for future updates, the board could be in use for several years and there could an upgrade to Version 2.5 or 3 in that time, and these boards will be upgradable

Actually it's the CPUs that have the integrated TPM on ones that have PTT support:

Ever since Skylake (6th gen), all Intel CPUs have an embedded TPM 2.0 that Intel calls Platform Trust Technology (PTT). AMD CPUs have an embedded TPM 2.0 called fTPM since the AM4 platform (2016).

  • Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0) - TPM 2.0 is a microcontroller that stores keys, passwords, and digital certificates. A discrete TPM 2.0 also supports Intel® vPro™ Technology and Intel® Trusted Execution Technology (Intel® TXT).
  • Intel® Platform Trust Technology (Intel® PTT) - Intel® Platform Trust Technology (Intel® PTT) offers the capabilities of discrete TPM 2.0. Intel PTT is a platform functionality for credential storage and key management used by Windows 8* and Windows® 10. Intel PTT supports BitLocker* for hard drive encryption and supports all Microsoft requirements for firmware Trusted Platform Module (fTPM) 2.0.

Intel PTT is since Haswell, but will not matter if Mobo vendor does not add option to the Bios to enable it.

I doubt the issue has anything to do with TPM.. when the OP runs a compatibility script we should know more.

@Cliff S

I've got a Ryzen 9 5950X in this latest build and was told that the fTPM was on the chipset but it could be anywhere

All I know is that there is a inconstancy with how some boards are setup. newer boards will have the Bios setting for the fTPM set to enabled as default Mine [Asus Prime X570-Pro Motherboard], shipped as disabled.

Another thing to watch out for is the option to clear the contents of the fTPM on a BIOS reset it's there for when you change processors to start over but mine defaulted to enabled and caused me some issues when I was adding finishing touches to the build ( Chillblast UK did the main build and I added some drives)

ftpm runs in the PSP which is an arm CPU on board Ryzen CPU, it boots before CPU loads the cores and creates the environment that ftpm runs in.

so its on the CPU. I just happened to watch a video on it today.

Thanks for that, there's a lot of information and misinformation doing the rounds online since Microsoft dropped the hardware requirements on us. The last time I worried about TPM was when it first appeared in a basic form to hold the embedded windows keys in laptops sold by Dell etc

So many videos say you need the chip... no... not if mb has ftpm or whatever Intel call theirs.. profit makers soon bought them all and prices are silly as the people who know truth are overwhelmed by all the videos saying you need this.

It will only get worse when the non tech savvy find out about 11. MIcrosoft site pushes you into buying new PC even if a BIOS update or change is enough in many cases to avoid replacing that 1 year old PC. Hope their tool is smarter when its released and at least points you at the reason you don't pass and maybe explains ways to fix it besides buy a new PC.

I think that most users who will purchase Windows after release will be general users who just want a New PC or Laptop - the OS will be Windows - Not Windows 10 or Windows 11 the OS is something that's on the device when they buy it - and I doubt if the scalping that happened when Vista was released, ( selling low spec XP machines as "Made for Vista" specials" ) will happen as the Hardware requirements are more of an OFF/On requirement so that you have to have TPM and Secret boot, and use a modern Processor or it "Ain't Gonna Work"
