Solved My system icons have disappeared!

So I moved the imagers.dll.mun file on my Windows 11 Computer, and all of my icons have disappeared! And when I try to move it back, it says I need permission to move the file! And whenever I try to go to advanced security settings to get permission, the File Explorer crashes! I don't even have a backup file! How do I get everything back to normal?!

To replace the default Explorer and desktop icons. You just have to be careful with permissions, and you can't replace the file while it's in use. Either rename it, or boot into WinPE/WinRE to swap the file.

Try "sfc /scannow" and reboot the system.

Actually, it's bc I wanna change the startup sound to the Windows 7 startup sound lol

I don’t think it has to do with startup sounds. It’s about icons.

I believe the imagers.dll.mun is loaded into memory so manipulating it can be complex.

The file is mentioned in various threads, you would have to serach them starting here:

It's not. You need TrustedInstaller rights, by running PowerRun or NSudo. Or just boot into WinRE.

If you like running with scissors, do takeown/icacls because Reddit says so.

ive deleted it before and honestly i forgot i switched my win 11 icons with the 10 because i have been using them for so long and i accidentally updated windows and now i cant delete the mun file it says you require permission from TrustedInstaller.exe i already am the owner of trusted installer...
