OS
Windows 11
Firstly, I have been completely unable to update to 22/2, it just reboots and rolls back, so I gave up with that and resigned myself to staying with 21/2.

Now it won't update to January 10, 2023—KB5022287 (OS Build 22000.1455). "Something didn’t go as planned." and it rolls back.

I've been trying to sort it out for nearly 24 hours and getting nowhere. I'm considering giving up and buying a Mac :(.

Does anyone know the answer?

I have 200Gb free on the C: partition. EFI partition is only 260Mb but I can't work out how to change it. Recovery is 1.22Gb.

I tried everything on the thread you linked to, plus a load more, but nothing works.

16 GB is way too low for Windows 11! Get the biggest SSD or hard drive your budget allows.

Windows 11 needs lots of space to store and install downloaded files. I have a ZBook 14 G2 with a 1 TB HD and I've had no problems with Windows Update here.

The answer would be no. How can he have Windows 11 running at all? Minimum requirement to install it is 64 GB and that isn't even enough to hold updates.

If Windows 11 is installed there, your updates should get installed! Maybe you have corrupted files so you need to run your Windows 11 repair utilities to see if you have issues preventing them from being installed.

If that doesn't solve it, you will have to reset Windows and begin again with a clean install.

tonyw, the next step would perhaps be a inplace reset. You keep all files and apps, it downloads newest windows 11.

Steps:
Download the windows 11 iso Download Windows 11 (bottom option)

Open it and open setup.exe.

Then go through process, self explanitory and then make sure to keep files and apps. It should update to 22H2.

I've got so much stuff on it I really don't want to do that without a new machine to put it all on.

For now, I've paused updates, perhaps MS will have a new version in the next few weeks.

For some it has been Realtek driver that causes this particular failure so you might see if your manufacturer has updated driver for that..
Make sure you have current bios.

Your logs should direct you to the specific driver that is causing your particular issue.

You can then remove offending driver and try upgrade again.

Otherwise, a clean install should install all the appropriate drivers to run 22H2.

I uninstalled the Realtek drivers and the Intel Command Centre, which is also reported as problematic, but no go.

Other than not updating, the machine is working fine so I won't do a clean install unless I buy a new machine and do It when that is fully configured, which usually takes me a week or two before going live.

I do suspect some old software (car ECU interface) which I couldn't uninstall properly so there are a few orphan files and folders but windows 11 won't let me delete them. Big brother is in control.
