Windows 11 Pro 21H1
Hallo!

I just upgraded from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 11 Pro 21H2 22000.194

With Windows 10 I was using a very neato taskbar app called True Launch Bar. I could do all sorts of nifty things with it, like use virtual folders to make cascading menus with folders and shortcuts in it. I could put whatever I wanted in there.

I'm not surprised, and I kinda anticipated it, but Windows 11 uninstalled True Launch Bar. So now I don't have my nifty menus and it feels like I'm computing in a straight jacket. Oh noes!

So I'm wondering if there's a way to do this with Windows 11 that doesn't require hacking the registry (didn't work anyway).

To be clear, what I want is to have a folder icon on the taskbar that will expand to custom folders and apps. In one menu.

Kinda like this.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

Please see this thread: True Launch Bar

Mind you, there are more than 60 posts there, but the bottom line is that TLB won't run on W11 without major surgery, at least for now. We're hoping that MS will re-think the taskbar. Wishful thinking costs nothing.

I did. Way too much surgery as you put it.

Alas.

I just don't understand how this sort of thing isn't a defualt bit of Windows. It seems like such an obvious thing to want to do.

Alas.

What do the developers of True Launch Bar have to say? they are the ones responsible to get their software to work with Windows 11. this has always been the way of 3rd party apps for major operating systems

Ничего.

He isn't working on it currently, and until there's a native working taskbar, I don't think he's going to do anything.

If you third-party the taskbar, True Launch Bar works as well on 11 as on 10. The one-file Explorer Patcher seems to me to be the most promising workaround so far. But I'm still hoping MS will come to its senses and reinstate the working taskbar ("with all the trimmings," as they say about roast turkey).

(The word at the top means "nothing" in Russian.)
