Hello, and welcome to the forum. When my ethernet cable is unplugged, my eithernet status icon in bottom right system tray changes to a world. When I hover over it with my mouse, it tells me a cable is unplugged.

As @glasskuter said that is the best and easiest way, when the "world"shows, you have no internet access and as said above, letting your mouse hoover on the world icon will tell you the reason

Thanks for your answers ... but I was looking more for a way to get an Event ID so I can trigger an action when cable is plugged/unplugged.

I would think that an event would already be occurring when a cable is disconnected. You can test it pretty easily by disconnecting and reconnecting your cable and checking in event viewer.

zkab,

When I'm experimenting like that, I run NirSoft's FullEventLogView because it makes it easy to see everything in chronological order so you can set everything up for your test, start the NirSoft utility, pull out / put back the cable, refresh the view then see if any events occurred that seem relevant.
- I do find it ridiculously easy to accidentally put the view in reverse chronological order then wonder why I'm not seeing anything new added at the top of the list.
- I often then track down the event in Windows' own Event viewer so I can see other events in the same log.

Best of luck,
Denis

I have two computers that change from private to public firewall. That also shows a globe in the tray.
