Hello,

A few days ago I did a clean install of Windows 10 on my desktop PC, and then installed W11 via the Windows Insider Program.
Ever since I did, the network item disappeared from the bottom right of the taskbar. I tried going into the taskbar settings where you can chose which icons will appear on the bottom right but I've got only two options : pen menu (if I translate right from French) and touch keyboard. I remember having more options to choose from in Windows 10, one of which was "network".
I tried all of this How to Fix Network Icon Missing From Taskbar In Windows 10 and all of this Full Solved – WiFi Icon Missing from Taskbar Windows 10/8/7 to no avail.
I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling network drivers, and I went into network configuration but did not find any setting that could help me.
And I tried the reset taskbar .bat file found here Reset Taskbar Corner Notification Icons in Windows 11 didn't work either.
I don't know what else to try.

Thanks for your help

Try to do this:
Press WIN + R, type:
shell:::{05d7b0f4-2121-4eff-bf6b-ed3f69b894d9}

That will bring a dialog to activate tray icons.

Or, advanced option, use this:
Add Personalize (classic) context menu in Windows 10

Thanks, I entered the command and I can see the menu where I can activate tray icons. Only problem is I can't change certain icons unless I'm an administrator, yet I checked my account and I'm already one ! The message is "Some settings are managed by your administrator".
I tried a few things for that problem, none of them worked. I think I will wait a few months since I intend to change my motherboard and processor, and I will do a clean install of W11. For now I will just use a shortcut to my internet connection on my desktop.

Click "Turn system icons on or off" after that command to see your network icon, and set it to on..

I would like to add, initial behaviour of icons in Notification Area Icons UI is borrowed from Settings, Taskbar, Taskbar corner overflow. For example, I like to see as many icons as possible and checked the option "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar". After that, the behaviours on this dialog follow the switches on Taskbar corner overflow, where all icons are on, except of Microsoft Teams (Preview) which I don't suppose to use, so it's switched off. As a result, on the Notification Area Icons dialog all behaviours are "Show icon and notification" with exception of mentioned above MS Teams which is "Show only notification". Of course, the system icons are controlled independently.

P.S. I use the Open Shell start menu and have added the link to the Notification Area Icons as a custom item, for convenience.

It's build 22000.100 now. And still, they "imprisoned" Taskbar and Start Menu to their liking, even though many people are complaining in the Feedback Hub. Also because of the new context menu.

So, using some registry hack, and/or 3rd party softwares are somehow "the best" options we have as the end user, people that are stick to the operating system almost 24/7.

Click "Turn system icons on or off" after that command to see your network icon, and set it to on..
That's what I had done but I still get the administrator problem, "Network" is greyed out. I tried clicking "Restore default icon behaviors" but "Network" stays "Off". "Customize notification icons" doesn't do anything. And yet I checked my account, I'm an administrator.

You use Windows 11 Home or Pro? It looks like a (possible) Home limitation.

The message "Some settings are managed by your administrator" may appear after applying Windows policies.

for Windows 10:

# Network Icon; 1-hide
REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\NonEnum" /v "{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}" /T REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

or
REG ADD "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\NonEnum" /v "{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}" /T REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Forgive this for the explorer. But still a Windows policies.

I only see my icon is not in Flight Mode which to me is not ideal as I use Flight Mode to disable WIFI/BT but still have have use of Ethernet.

I can live without it as I use the far better itsamples Network Activity Monitor.

Go to Run, type in services.msc . . Make sure "Network List Services" is set to Automatic, and then start the service, reboot.

That's good work @JMedlock83. This seems to be a common problem for a lot of people. I hope they find your solution before they jump into a reset or clean install.

That's good work @JMedlock83. This seems to be a common problem for a lot of people. I hope they find your solution before they jump into a reset or clean install.
Thank you! I noticed it was gone 2 days ago, then I remembered I was going through that list in services and was disabling things that I didn't need, and didn't think I needed that one. . . . Trial & Error, I guess.
