Hi Roomies.
I just ran the PC Health Check and I need a NEW CPU and a TPM module for my MB in order to pass the new requirements.
My question is should I buy a new CPU ( Intel Core i9-9900K – (1151/8 Core/3.60GHz/16MB/Coffee Lake/95W) – BX806849900K ) I think this one can be use with my MB. The TPM cost $50.00 now for my MB Z77-DS3H , which I also don't know if I'm better off spending more cash and build a new PC.
Thank you for your help.

you don't need a TPM module, you can turn on the firmware TPM in your CPU. With Intel, it's called PTT.

You don't need a TPM module in order to use Windows 11. If you decide to upgrade to a 9900k CPU + MB, the requirements are all built into the the BIOS/UEFI firmware. You just need to enable the features.

I would get a new motherboard to go along with the new processor that way you simply have to enable TPM 2 and it will be compatible with newer processors.

No, the newer CPU's and motherboards have support for TPM. So, you have 2 choices
1). Either run a discrete TPM module that you plug into the header on your mobo
2). Enable the firmware based TPM features and then it uses your CPU/mobo and doesn't require the discrete TPM module.

You have a socket 1155 mobo, a 3rd generation Intel chip is the best you can do....which is what you have.

Unfortunately, you need to get to 8th generation for Windows 11 support.

If I do step 2, then I will need a newer CPU from MS list that will work on my MB...correct?
Yes, you need to be on a supported CPU from Intel. 8th Generation or higher.

Either way you'll need an 8th gen processor or newer. Older ones are not supported by Win11.

Can I see any other i7 from the list that qualify me to pass the minimum?
No CPU compatible with your current motherboard will be compatible with Windows 11. You need to upgrade to an 8th generation Intel CPU and a compatible Motherboard or AMD 2nd generation Ryzen CPU.

Either way you will need 3 things, new CPU, new MB and new RAM if you want to be running Windows 11 in a state that is supported by Microsoft

C'mon guys -- install via iso -- provided you have TPM it WORKS even for 6th GEN Intel processors on old laptops.
The bugbear in this is that you will need to do a "Clean install" as upgrade will do the hardware validation checks.

I've just installed on an external USB device using RUFUS with the WindowstoGO option.

No problems of any kind other than I had to install on a "Standard USB3 ext device" rather than an SSD connected vis SATA->USB adapter -- probably the R UFUS software not compatible for install on that type of connection. Rufus gave initial error on the WindowstoGO option with the SSD -- "Operation Timed out" at formatting the GPT partition stage. Using standard USN3 external HDD -- worked perfectly including the cumulative update KB5005635.

However after install I cloned the USB3 HDD to the SSD device and it works perfectly.

Got a whole slew of updates as well. (KB5005635)

Cheers

That is not something we can recommend to most users. Only for those who knows exactly what they are doing. If MS says 8th gen. Intel is the bare minimum, then it is 8th gen. Intel. Period!

Some of us could get Windows 11 even running on a toaster if we wish to. But most people aren't that tech savvy. Better stick with what MS recommends/requires for the rest.
