Surface Update History:
Improvements and fixes in the updates
January 2026 updates
January 27 releaseThe following update is available for Surface Pro 12-inch 1st Edition devices running Windows 11, Version 24H2 or greater.
Improvements and fixes:
- Security:
- Strengthen your device’s security. We’ve addressed potential security vulnerabilities that may lead to unexpected shutdowns and privilege escalation.
- Reliability:
- Write, erase, and navigate smoothly with your pen. We’ve fixed issues where the Surface Slim Pen 2 unexpectedly loses pairing after inking, pen erasing isn’t stable, and the cursor position isn’t aligned to the pen during hovering.
- Performance and usability:
- Simplify device management. System administrators now have the option to turn off the stop error triggered by a long power-button hold. They can set the value for PowerButtonBugcheck to 0 in the registry.
