Solved New machines should remove the OS !

There was an article this morning on MSN from some Tech, he stated that most machines will run better if you delete the OS that came installed on it and replaced with a new version ! He said it has to much stuff from the producer that it slows down a machine ! I think this is very probable so wondering what your thoughts are on this ?? I know there is a lot of unwanted stuff from HP on their machines ! Thoughts please ??

A clean install has none of the junk HP (and every body else) puts on the machine, and it has the added advantage of making it unnecessary for you to pick and choose what you want to get rid of, never knowing what might hurt your installation. Windows 11 is pretty good at finding and installing the necessary drivers, as well.

Some people do a clean install to avoid the oem bloatware. Others uninstall the bits they don't want. Many people just put up with it.

The one thing I loved about my 2017 Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1 is it didn't come with a lot of bloatware (basically none). The only thing it came with that some, not me, consider bloatware is Lenovo Vantage, which I still have use today (5 years now) as it keeps my drivers and BIOS up to date.

Frankly he is exaggerating things.

It takes 5 minutes to uninstall most vendor bloatware.

Make an image backup first just in case you delete something important.

The bigger risk is you do a clean install but lack certain drivers.

Clean installing has it's pros and cons. Yes with a clean install you do not have all the manufacturer apps(many which are considered junk, but a few are quite helpful), but since a clean install installs drivers from MS file repository, neither do you always have the latest drivers nor do you have any drivers specifically designed for and by your manufacturer. I prefer to just uninstall any manufacturer app I do not want to use. I use Revo uninstaller which removes any leftover files and registry entries associated with the apps I uninstall.

I think with modern hardware, etc....the amount of slowdown from bloat stuff would be minimal. Form my perspective, for any machines I have gotten from Dell, I have wiped clean and started from scratch.

Personally, I would image the machine as it was new and start clean. In the event you cannot get it working right, you can always resort back to the image that you took.

if you are new to this, that is simply what they call bloatware. It is generally true if you know what you are doing.

I have a better idea. No need to uninstall an application, unless you know what it is and you don't need it (such as a trial Antivirus or trial Office you don't intend keeping). You can disable most applications from Startup so they don't consume resources and slow down the system. If you discover an application was important or useful, just enable it again at startup.

No way i guess to really find out unless you bought 2 of the same & removed ones OS and see which is faster !!

Just uninstall any programs or apps you won't use. I use Revo Uninstaller Pro. After it uninstalls the program, it will search and give you the option to delete all leftovers of the program.

@flashh4, I now buy all of my computers from Micro Center. The PowerSpec desktops come pre-installed with Microsoft Office 365 trial and Eset Internet Security trial. I already use both so for me there isn't any bloatware. I also buy the factory refurbed laptops that do come with bloatware. The very first thing I uninstall is the McAfee software if installed. I keep all of the OEM's software if it has to do with keeping the system updated and/or running smoothly.

I just got a new Dell desktop. After setting up the user accounts, I installed Macrium and made an image. The only app I removed was the McAfee trial software. I left the Dell Support Assistant and OS recovery tool.

This system had very little bloatware, but my previous Dell (currently using) had more bloatware, such as dropbox, McAfee, MS office trial, and some others. I just uninstalled all the unnecessary software.

If I were to ever buy an OEM computer, that's what I would do. . But, I just buy all the parts and build my own.

Microsoft Update will put the drivers back when you do the fresh install. I've never had a problem of that not happening. And IF they don't, then you can go to the Company's website and download them from there.

You uninstall them and you can free up disk space too.

Winuser, all 8 of my computers are HP's ! The Lenovo was the one i had problems with, never would i own one ! They would prob be ok after running one for awhile !
