Old app by NortonLifeLock was no problem.

New app (today) by Gen Digital Inc is not reporting correctly, but it only happens on my HP desktop machine (Win 11 Pro). It does not happen on my DELL laptop (Win11 Home). Maybe something to do with Pro vs Home versions?

Windows 11 23H2, Build 22631.4169 shows that my Wi-Fi is set up as a Private network: -

But the new N360 app thinks the network is a Public network and clicking on ‘Change to Private’ does nothing. I don’t know which apps it is restricting and it may be false reporting.

I suspect it is a bug in the new app but is anyone else seeing this behaviour?

Among computer techs, we used to have a saying, "to really screw up a PC, just install Norton on it".
One of my most favored programs used to be my "Norton Removal Tool".
That saved a lot of PC's.

Norton anything? No Thanks!

@TechnoMage2021 - Yes, I have heard of others having problems with Norton but my experience has been different. I have used Norton for years with no problems.

Update1: It seems to have fixed itself today. See photo. Hope it is a non-recurring bug/glitch.

Update2: It came back again. Must be a bug.

Update3: Now it shows correctly again. Obviously a dynamic situation, but it should be constantly showing Private (because Win 11 always shows it is a Private network) so must be a bug. I think.

Just hope a future update fixes it.

In case it helps others I think I found the culprit in the new app and it is to do with Smart Firewall on Win11 Pro devices (it doesn't happen on my DELL Win11 Home device): -

I discovered something called 'Automatic Network Control' and changed the default setting from 'Smart Mode with Notifications' to 'Windows Settings Mode'.

@wiganken . Just noticed your post. Yesterday 2 of our PC's were updated to the new Norton 360 app. We noticed that the quick scan went from 5 minutes on the old version to 31 minutes on the new one. The old version scanned around 12K files but the new one 70K which seems a lot for a quick scan. Also a bit concerned about the auto cloud backup, which " works in the background " deciding which files to upload. Cloud backup is not activated as I am not signed in to my Norton account but should that happen not sure what happens. As a precaution I have uninstalled Norton from our PCs and gone back to Defender until the bugs are sorted out.

That happened to my N360 as well but it was only for the first quick-scan. Subsequent Quick Scan still only takes 3m 55s even though scanning 90216 files. Using Smartscan is even quicker. It only took 34 seconds but does not show a file-count.

I am signed-in and Cloud Backup is not activated so Cloud Backup must be an opt-in option. Not opt-out. Whether signed-in or not is not a concern.

Yes. That's certainly possible. I was doing some online banking today using a PC with updated Norton 360 installed- I only use this pc for banking and other sensitive things - health etc, not general browsing. As I entered the URL of my bank, a Norton popup appeared saying something along the lines of " Bank safely with us. Turn on....." which I dismissed. Got me concerned about what info Norton is looking at and at what level. I may think about uninstalling Norton from this pc and just go with Defender and MWB free? Would be grateful for advice. Thanks.

For Info only:

To save time I find Smartscan to be very quick at only 34 seconds on the HP device.

Time taken for scans depends on the processing speed of the device so your scans will differ.

My HP desktop device:
Quick scan took only 3m 59s having scanned 90216 items.
Full scan took 9m 50s having scanned 1040280 items.

My DELL laptop device:
Quick scan took 13m 33s having scanned 109751 items (on battery power).
Full scan took 19m 23s having scanned 1038663 items (plugged into power supply).

I saw the smart scan option. Can you just use the smart scan without going on to the other 2 parts where they try to sell the cleanup program? They are not individually selectable. I've used Norton since Windows 98 and it was a much lighter piece of software - now it's bloated. If they had kept the Anti Virus separate it would be OK.

I don't think so. I think Norton insists on finishing its scan as a safety issue. It would not be seen as safe if users could circumvent its scan completion.

I think you mean stopping the Smartscan after the 'Viruses & Malware' scan has completed and before it starts doing scan steps 2 & 3.
As a test I tried clicking on the X at top-right of the window to close the window before step 2 begins but it continues in the background until it completes the remaining two steps and a pop-up appears on completion of the three scans.

Yes. They've obviously got that covered - got to visit the shop! Unfortunately quick scan is still the same time as before. I'll give it some more time then decide. Thanks again.
