New Outlook freezes with high RAM usage

Hi,

On my work laptop, I'm using New Outlook app 1.2024.1002.0

Today it started to behave abnormally. When I'm using the app suddenly the CPU and RAM usage increases for the webview2 workers. The app becomes unresponsive. Partially: I can still scroll the inbox or select another folder in the list. I don't really what triggers it, because it happens even if I just display a mail, switch between apps, min/maximize the app. When the RAM usage reaches ~2 GB, a notification appears and suggests me to restart Outlook right away. Clicking the notification kills the process then restarts it.

Found nothing in the event viewer. If I don't touch the app it still increases (currently over 4.8 GB)

Webview2 version is 129.0.2792.79

Running Windows 11 (26100.1742) on a Dell Precision 3490 laptop (i7 Ultra, 32GB RAM, SSD)

Any help would be appreciated :)

Same problem here, it started today all of a sudden, in my case I don't even need to do anything to trigger it, it just gives me the same notification about unusual RAM-Usage and suggests restarting the process over and over again.

Hopefully someone comes up with a solution...

Same problem on my end.

Outlook will ramp up in RAM usage and will freeze and crash. I will be notified that Outlook needs to be restarted (click here).
If I click the notification, Outlook will close and restart. This will happen every 30-60 minutes.

Update: I just repaired the app trough the "App advanced settings" and it looks like it worked...

Same issue here as well in the usa. I just ignored the flyout notification and its working fine. Ram usage isnt going crazy or anything.

Update: I just repaired the app trough the "App advanced settings" and it looks like it worked...
I would say it's random because before posting I wasn't able to reproduce the issue. Sometimes a mail just popped and the RAM usage suddenly started to increase, even if I wasn't doing anything in the app.

I tried the repair function, we'll see if it does something or not.

I had the same issue today, also on my Dell work laptop. Windows 10 though.
The maximum was more than 8.5GB before I've killed it.
It seems to be stable at the moment.

Actions taken:
Ended task in Task Manager and restarted Outlook -> problem persists
Ended task in Task Manager, restarted laptop and restarted Outlook -> problem persists
Ended task in Task Manager and restarted Outlook -> problem solved (?)

It stays at between 500 and 550MB memory usage right now.

From what I can tell Microsoft is going to need to fix this with an update to the app. Seems like a memory leak of some sort

I am seeing issues here at work on even the web version of outlook so I think its all kinda screwy.

On the east coast, Vermont, we were experiencing 4.5 to 5Gb memory load with Outlook 365 in Task Manager, but it's come down to 300Mb since noon. Perhaps they fixed the memory leak?

Spoke too soon, memory usage is almost 950Mb at idle - but it seems to be going on in our entire organization. Super!

Hi all,

Today I don't have any issues anymore, without any action from my part.
I suppose there was an update of Outlook.

Outlook Version and WebView2 Version are still the same though (1.2024.1002.100 and 129.0.2792.79 resp.).
