I installed Epson Scan 2 software for my Epson Inkjet, but I notice that there are no option for Searchable PDF. I installed the ABBYY Findreader Sprint software,. but I don't see the searchable PDF option. Is there some trick to integerate ABBYY Finereader sprint to Epson scan 2.

Cheap PDF creation software frequently comes with many commercial scanners

PDFs are created in 2 possible formats
- OCR (optical character recognition) which are the searchable documents
- PDF image files, which are nothing more than akin to an image file (like a jpg), effectively a photograph of the original document, and cannot be searched

It is software that creates this latter result that comes with many scanners, and it difficult for 4th party software to make any difference.

You need to investigate scanning software that creates the PDF in searchable format from the outset

EDIT
I note from their website that ABBYY Finereader is indicated as OCR software. The searchable option may not be in the creation process. So, what happens when you just create the pdf file, save it, then open it with, say Adobe Acrobat Reader, and then try and do a search?

OK, I realized incorrectly that the searchable PDF was done by ABBYY Finereader, but I notice that the software is not installed on the box this is operating on. For example, see the following screenshot

I downloaded the software from the web and installed it, but perhaps I need to locate the original disc, which won't be easy.

For example, see the following screenshot
Is this a screenshot from the Epsom software, which includes a format setting for a searchable PDF?? If so, why don't you just create the pdf and try to search?

No this is what it should show but I don’t have that option in the new install

OK, I figured it out and it's not really spelled out anywhere, but you cannot install the OCR component directly, it must be installed by Epson Software Update.
  1. Install the Epson Software, there seems to be two different components the Printer and the Scanner. I notice that there is a Universal Printer driver. Do not install that one, it will not allow you to install the OCR. Install the one specific to your printer in my case Epson ET-4750.
  2. Install the Epson's Software Updater.
  3. Launch Epson Software Updater and you should see a Epson OCR component. Install that and the searchable PDF option will appear.
