Hi,

I bought the following composite video (and audio) USB capture device from amazon a while ago for capturing footage from some old VHS tapes.

Whilst only a relatively cheap device it worked absolutely pefectly on my windows 11 PC using OBS studio for ages, though after a break of a couple of months I went to try and use the device again but now no video will show in OBS (audio fine). I tried VLC's stream from a capture device functionality and it's the same...i.e the audio can be heard but the video device fails to open.

Thinking this may be a problem with the capture device itself I plugged it into my windows 11 pro laptop and it works absolutely fine (with no special drivers needed, windows installled it automatically).

Windows 11 Pro Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1265)

After looking in the events section of the "AV TO USB2.0" device in device manager There is the following entry -

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Device USB\VID_534D&PID_0021&MI_00\7&6af79c6&0&0000 had a problem starting.

Driver Name: usbvideo.inf
Class Guid: {ca3e7ab9-b4c3-4ae6-8251-579ef933890f}
Service: usbvideo
Lower Filters: WdmCompanionFilter
Upper Filters:
Problem: 0x0
Problem Status: 0xC00000E5
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Suggestion only !

Uninstall / remove the capture device. Re-start machine, plug in again and see if it works. Also try a USB3 socket instead of a USB2 one if your computer has one.

Note also recent updates of W11 have more security such as "protected folders. memory etc" so the settings in WD might not allow your driver to be installed correctly -- with OLD hardware I usually find is disconnect from Internet, reduce or even switch off security and then install. usually fixes the problem. Afterwards you can re-instate full security etc again.

Cheers

Hi,

Jumping onto the post about the av to usb2.0

I have a EasyCAP device and have exactly the same error listing in event logs as listed above.
Have tried OBS and Honestech software, turned both Malwarebytes and Defender off with still no results.
Although the device is lit and working according to Device Manager. Device Manager, device properties 'says it needs further installation. ??
It is not listed under 'This PC' as being connected as a USB device etc.
Using OBS, the device is not listed to choose as a source for the Camcorder VHS video.

I have sorted the issue.

I dug out an old laptop with Windows 7 SP1 and AV to USB2 works and sorted.........
