Win 11Pro v22H2 build 22621.2428
Running Windows 11 Pro v22H2 build 22621.1555. I have 2 2Tb NvME drives, one as my C:/ drive and one as my game drive. I wanted to check if those drives supported DirectDrive so I issued the command: fsutil bypassIo state c:\ and received the following:

BypassIo on "c:\" is not currently supported
Status: 506 (At least one minifilter does not support bypass IO)
Driver: PDFsFilter
Reason: The specified minifilter does not support bypass IO.
Storage Type: NVMe
Storage Driver: Not BypassIo Compatible

It appears that PDFsFilter.sys is a problem. Can I safely delete this file or will that create issues?

Thanks.

Do you mean DirectStorage? This only works with the generic Microsoft NVMe driver, it won't work with manufacturer drivers, such as Samsung

How was it installed? Deleting the driver would likely cause your PC to not boot, but if the driver can be uninstalled it SHOULD revert to the generic MS driver. MAKE A SYSTEM IMAGE BACKUP BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE BOOT DRIVE STORAGE DRIVER!

Have Macrium Reflect for that very reason. It's saved my butt countless times. Will try and post the results soon. Going to have to go into safe mode to try this so it'll be a while.

Do you have Pefectdisk installed? This is a storage filter driver for that program. You should not remove it manually, but by uninstalling PerfectDisk. It may cause issues with disk i/o otherwise.

If you have to ask, then you probably already have the Micosoft nvme driver. It is just all storage i/o filter drivers have to support the bypass as well, and this one apparently does not.

No, I don't have PerfectDisk installed. Any other programs that might have installed it? I don't ever remember installing PerfectDisk in the past but if it was and then uninstalled, could it have left this file?

only PerfectDisk.

Raxco was notified of the need to update this driver 12 months+ ago, and have done nothing.

Anyone coming across this, if you don't use Optiwrite you can disable the filter in Autoruns.
