I have just downloaded the latest version .176 and looked at the fixes and known issues. I noticed that some issues have been mitigated through a few versions, for example search functions on some machines. Will this all be sorted by the 5th?? I still think there is an awful lot that needs to be be done before the launch date.
I will not be using Win 11 on my main pc yet as there are too many things I do not like as the will slow my work down. I certainly am unsure of the look, nice new icons, yet the corner icons on the taskbar which was the old action centre is a big step backwards for me, they do not look good and the clock is too small and I can't use 3rd party apps. As the taskbar is visible all the time ( unless hidden ) and most things are launched from it I think it should be very customisable for every user to suit their individual needs rather than what MS say we have to have. Rant over :) I still think too much needs to be fixed /sorted before the 5th

I suspect that many of the patches/fixes that are in 22449.1000 will be in the final build that will come out on the 5th. Assuming that there are no major issues with them they'll likely get the go ahead. There's no need to hold them back.,

I still feel it is lacking so much compared to Win 10 which makes it more time consuming doing my stuff. I thought they would of added more things to Win 10, it's starting to look a bit like my Android phone :lmao:

10 has been around for a wile and MS has had the chance to fix it. If you compare 10 to 11 at the same stage of their life cycles I doubt you would find much of a difference bug wise. And if you don't like 11, don't use it. No one is forcing you too.

Quite agree, but like you said win 10 has been modified so much MS in my opinion should have used all that as a basis for Win 11. I don't expect 11 to be like 10 or want it to be but it must match my needs. I can think back to when I started in computing back with Win3 and 3.1...glad i'm retired now

Scroll bars are so inconsistent - some screens have the very thin scroll bars, others the wider W10 style, and some seem to be a hybrid i.e, the b, the background is like W10 but the scollbar is thin.

If MS cannot get that right.........

The fixing/sorting work that is going on right now focuses on cosmetics. It's like going to church on the 5th in your best clothes. That your underwear is less than presentable is secondary.

I totally agree. People are comparing Windows 11 with Windows 10, which has been developed and redeveloped. Of course, it's natural to compare. Like you say, though, if people don't like Windows 11, don't use it. Or better yet, join the Dev channel and make solid suggestions for improvement and fixes.

The "Windows 10 is the last Windows ever" statement was not said by Microsoft, it was a basic throwaway remark by "developer evangelist" Jerry Nixon at the launch event referring to it's continuous development plans

MS did say 'Windows as a Service' and not a product, but it now it's back to product again with the product number incremented from 10 to 11. Also, WaaS had a whiff of subscription, but no subscription fees were ever on the table. There remains some ambivalence here.

Windows as "a service" was never the issue as it was just that the OS would be continuously being developed.

What did cause some worry was when the some of the press equated the word service with the word subscription - which was always more clickbait than anything else

I still think too much needs to be fixed /sorted before the 5th

I have been browsing for a new laptop. The last two I bought Windows Update was totally broken. I cannot get dinged three times in a row. For that reason I have to get something with W11 preloaded. After reading your post I suspect I will not feel confident enough to buy a mid-range Laptop until the first quarter of 2022, if then. It is depressing. :(

Miles you may be better off looking at a better spec windows 10 laptop that's Windows 11 ready, you can then update to Win11 when you are ready for it, and it meets your needs -

The fact that Win 11 is coming out relatively early - ready for the holidays - may mean that "old" stock laptops with Windows 10 will attract decent discounts and can still be used for the free update to Windows 11 when it is fully patched and ready

I recently bought a Dell inspion3501 added another 8gb of ram making 16, set it all up on Win10 to my liking then went to win 11 and it is perfect no problems at all with it I have used several versions of 11 and never had a problem. I hope this helps

This is why I mentioned the Windows Update issue. I got a Windows 8 laptop because they said when W10 came out I could update free. Not so easy to do with Windows Update broken. I have no doubt if I buy a W10 laptop with free W11 update the same thing will happen again. I don't need the aggravation. On both these laptops I cannot even run restore points. They always fail after three boots. I have to use an imaging program such as Macrium Reflect to back up the system disk. Sometimes even stand-alone update installers fail the same way. It seems like if it wasn't for bad luck there'd be no luck at all, as my older brother liked to say. :)

Gee, I think your only options are voodoo priest or preloaded W11.
