OS
windows 11 up tp date.
Caused this issue by purchasing a digital copy on line in 2020 ( OFFICE). Then I made it worse two weeks ago by acquiring a newer pc and installed my SSD drives from the old pc. All went well until I opened outlook (then word etc.) Was told that I had to reactivate Office. Win 11 and all my other software including MSFS worked just fine. After over 2 hrs with Microsoft in India and the Philippines I was told that MS won't help me in any way as I did not buy through the MS Store. I sent them a copy of the email I got after the purchase which gave me the Product key. Nada!!
Also tried running OSPPEARM.EXE (three times) which only reset the number of days I could use office before it died.

So, my question is does anyone have some other things to try. I have used regedit before but I don't feel comfortable in there ever though I back up the files.
I feel that I made a legitimate purchase and I will find it hard to re-purchase after spending the money on the replacement pc.

Your original purchase may have been legit at the time but no way to know if the same product key was sold more times later.
When I ran out of licenses for Office after the Partners program was discontinued I switched to LibreOffice and Thunderbird for E-Mail. I got a cheap-o HP Notebook [$175] 11 months ago which included Microsoft 365 for a year but probably will not renew.

How much did you pay?
$10 keys are more than likely volume licensing keys usually sold multiple times. They work for the good part until a reinstall or Microsoft or the company the volume licence belongs to, catches wind.

Best way to combat this is to Install Windows, immediately install Office then make a system image. This usually ensures that the key will continue to work.

If you need to you could probably buy a cheap key from the Microsoft affiliates, Stack Social

  • Lifetime license for MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher & Access
  • One-time purchase installed on 1 Windows PC for use at home or work
  • Instant Delivery & Download – access your software license keys and download links instantly
  • Free customer service – only the best support!

You could get a license much cheaper but then you face the same issue as you have now.

My original goal was to be legit; never expected this. More like win 11 being attached at the hip to my old Mother board I thought.
I think I can get office 2024 for 69/month but I don't like that at all.
Too bad MS wouldn't SELL me a workable key. That is their goal after all; to make money. Hense all the agents working out of India and Philippines ect. instead of say, Seattle!!
Thanks for input; I have lots of time to look around as I can keep resetting Office to 29 days. Bit of a pain hitting cancel all the time, but.......................................

Microsoft Office 2024 (Standalone)
There is no monthly sub for the standalone program. This is for life and remains linked to and in your Microsoft account, non transferable to a new PC AFAIK.

Microsoft sells Office Home & Business 2024 for US$249.99

If you don’t want Outlook, it is cheaper for US$219.00

Microsoft 365 (Subscription)
This is for as long as you pay your monthly or yearly subscription

Microsoft 365 Business Plans

Microsoft 365 Personal (More for a family plan)

The way I look at it, you could pay the cheap standalone price for Office 2021 or Office 2019 from stack social, and even if you had to buy the key once per year due to it failing on a new install, you’re still paying less than you are for Office 2024 standalone or Microsoft 365 subscription, over a period of time.

I have not yet read any complaints in this forum about Stack Social. I have read complaints similar to yours though, outside of this forum.

The owner of this forum @z3r010 uses Stack Social, and occasionally posts specials.

I went into Stack social for a look see; attempted to purchase 2019 pro which is good for me; they had issues during the purchase that caused me to get new cards on 2 bank accounts ; was very odd and hard to explain. I was sent an email apologizing and they said to try in a couple of days. More like a week before the new cards come in. Good to change cards from time to time anyway.

That reads as a little inconvenient. (It happened to me also with them)

You should also have been offered a first purchase discount.

I never expect anything like that from Microsoft. Never. Solve the issue by purchasing another copy of Office 2019 the same way as before. Had to do a little CMD Prompt work to get it up and running but all is good. $27 us for a digital copy and Key. I couldn't afford a MS copy of 2014 and I refuse to pay a monthly or yearly fee.
