Old W7 Games -- Hearts is great too

Hi folks

While things like Spider Solitaire are great for "Boring Meetings" etc -- I still like the old Hearts game -- on each deal pass 3 cards to left / north / east in turn,

Avoid collecting Q of spades and Hearts.

Q of spades - you get 13 pts, hearts 1 pt but if you get all 26 points then others get 26 and you get zero, 2 of clubs leads and game ends when a player gets 100 points. Object is to score on each hand minimum points (or the available 26 - that then adds 26 to each of the others points while you get zero).

I'd forgotten about this game but brilliant !!!! Install from Winaero site - old W7 games !! -- worls fine even on latest win 11 .160 (today's update)

I've been running those Win7 games for years. (Not so much Minesweeper or Purple Place.:)) I like them because, unlike the newer MS games, they aren't trying to sell you anything, or draw you into anything.

I don't know if anyone wants them, but here are the Windows XP games.
The ones that have an online component, don't still work. Like... Internet Checkers, for example.

Scan at Virustotal website of course.
Extract to a folder, and play.


Works on Windows 10... and probably Windows 11 as well.

Another vote for the XP versions - a cleaner simpler look, more in keeping with the look of W10/W11. And unlike the W7 ones, there isn't the constant battle at each feature update as MS tries to uninstall the W7 ones

Mine were copied from an old XP machine, or you could extract them from an XP install CD. And yes, they work fine on W11.

I like the fact that they're portable.
You can put them on a USB stick and take 'em anywhere. :)

portable version -- great idea !!

Why not also run the real deal in a full XP VM -- XP runs lightning fast on modern hardware -- even using "Virtual IDE" adapter for the HDD (my VHD is on a NVME SSD device !!! ) and if you use Office --- outlook 2010 still on VM is streets faster than Outlook 2019 on a Host W11 machine !! -- email hasn't changed much over the years so Outlook 2010 is fine -- and security isn't an issue it all goes through my Linux Gateway and proxy.

CPU usage on XP VM is absolutely minimal too !!!! Prefer the GUI as well (Lunar Black) and the type faces on menus etc so much nicer than current W11 fonts for system things etc.



Still using OUTLOOK 2010 daily from XP -- no problems at all. For EXCEL etc I use the 2019 version on Windows 11 though.

Call me an old Dinosaur if you like but I really think the current Windows GUI and themes look really dated now - even XP looks far more modern and appealing -- OK new hardware can run VR, Games etc but for basic "Officy things" XP still works and firefox currently is still OK - although I don't use Internet browsing on XP VM's.
