OneDrive on Multiple Computers

I'm getting confused with OneDrive. What I have is 2 computers (laptop and desktop). The laptop has OneDrive running, with Pictures, Documents, Videos and Desktop folders all inside the OneDrive folder. The desktop PC is new, and when OneDrive started, it splatted my desktop with all the icons from the laptop, not what I wanted, and most of the icons referred to programs not installed on the desktop. So I immediately stopped OneDrive on the desktop, and uninstalled it. My desktop has 2 drives... the SSD for OS, and my personal folders (Documents), whilst Pictures and Video folders live on a second HDD drive.

I want now to go back to using OneDrive to sync Pictures, Documents and Videos between the 2 computers, because these folders are now beginning to diverge. Firstly, I guess that I can remove the Desktop folder from OneDrive on the laptop? How do I manage the Pictures folder though? since there is an empty Pictures folder in the old OneDrive folder, and a full Pictures folder on the D drive.

Both computers are running Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1555).

Not sure if this guide will help, but in this video, let me show you how to stop OneDrive sync in the Windows operating system.

Thanks for your useful information. However, I don't want to stop OneDrive syncing, I actually want it to run, since the folders on the 2 computers are starting to diverge. My problem is the Pictures folder, all is good on my laptop, but the Desktop PC presents problems...
  • I have a Pictures folder in the OneDrive directory that was left by OneDrive earlier, this folder is empty
  • I have Pictures in my home directory on the C drive, and this too is empty
  • I have a Pictures folder on the D drive, and this is full of images.
OneDrive is currently uninstalled on the desktop, but I will reinstall and start it up once I know what to do. What I want is the Pictures folder in OneDrive to point to the Pictures folder on D, so that my Pictures can be synced across both computers.

I'm also unsure which computer takes precedence with OneDrive. If the same file resides on my laptop and desktop, but with different dates, which file is uploaded and synced by OneDrive?
