OneDrive

I've recently bought anew laptop windows 11, I have unlinked one drive as apparently it's full already, I can't afford to upgrade it yet, what is the best way to save images etc, I use lightroom a lot for photographs,

I use an external SSD (or HDD) with programs like Aomei Backupper or the paid version of Macrium Reflect using the File and Folder backup option or drag and drop to drive

Yeah, external drive is my thing for most files. There are other cloud storage options that offer free space as well. They're just not integrated into Windows.

I use Google Drive myself.

So, I assume that you had the standard 5GB free account for OneDrive and you filled it?

You don't have to save anything to OneDrive. You can save it to any local storage location on your hard drive, or you can optionally save it all to an external drive attached to your computer. As suggested by The-Hive, it's always a great idea to keep a backup copy of that data in case anything happens to your local drive.


These are your pricing options if you want to go with OneDrive. It's $19.99 a year to go from the free 5GB to 100GB. If you happen to also use MIcrosoft Office, if you go with a 365 subscription for $69 a year you get 1TB of OneDrive and office on an unlimited number of devices.

As already stated an external SSD drive works wonders.

Also, if you have the Lightroom/Photoshop subscription (as I do), you have 20GB of cloud storage. Additionally, if you have an Office 365 account (as I do) you have 1TB of free storage there as well (yeah, I note you said your storage is already full, so...)

I too have a Microsoft 365 account with all of Microsoft Office and one terabyte of cloud OneDrive mirroring my local OneDrive folder in real-time. I keep all my data and images in my OneDrive folder. I love it.

I too have the Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop subscription and I keep my image data in my OneDrive folder. I love it.

You do not say show country you are from, but in UK, some broadband ISPs offer quite a lot of free cloud space. I get 1 TB free from BT Broadband. Worth checking.
