Opera browser ships new design and live football features on Android

 Opera Press:

Oslo, Norway — June 9th, 2026 — Ahead of football’s premier global event this summer, Opera (NASDAQ: OPRA), a leading global browser and AI agent company, is shipping a new, dynamic design, alongside a full suite of live football features to its Android browser. The update makes it easier to access all of the matches within a dedicated football hub, with live scores, statistics and match notifications.

Football fans often face the challenge of juggling between multiple apps while following the sport. Opera’s survey of over 77,000 users shows that 86% plan to follow the matches and these new features eliminate the need to juggle between multiple apps. With 48 teams competing in 104 matches across time zones, the football hub’s live scores and statistics make it easy to follow every game in full, even when fans miss the broadcast. Opera’s survey found that 87% of respondents plan to stay up past midnight to catch at least some of the matches.

Opera’s set of football features and a sleeker start page

Building on Opera’s recent search update that allows users to conduct an AI chat in a dedicated browser tab, the new Opera start page on Android is more immersive, and designed around less friction between what users see when they open it and what they came to the browser to do, which is to search for something and find it.

The speed dial icons now come in round, square, or squircle. A new weather widget surfaces real-time conditions at a glance. New shortcuts let users move right into AI-Mode, or initiate a private session the moment the browser opens. Nothing has been taken away – users can still customize their start page but only if they want to.

Opera for Android goes beyond the browser, offering a deep content experience built for fans who want more from their phone during the most important football event in 2026. Users can access the full football experience inside the dedicated football hub. The Live Scores carousel displays real-time scores across all ongoing matches, giving users an immediate view of everything happening the moment they open their browser. Tapping into individual games gives users a more detailed view, with line-ups, match event information, and head-to-head statistics. Users can also select their favorite teams to receive instant notifications for key moments in a match – be it kickoffs, goals, red cards, or the end result. The AI-powered news feed ensures that coverage adapts to each user’s interest over time. Altogether, Opera for Android gives fans a full suite of football features to follow the biggest event this summer, wherever they are.

A global fan base ready for a summer full of football

Opera’s football features are backed by user demand, shown through findings from the survey – 86% of respondents plan to follow the tournament and 38% will do so within their browser. Opera now comes with live scores, match notifications and football statistics, all accessible from the dedicated football hub and useful to football fans around the world for those moments when they can’t sit in front of a big screen. The football features are also available on Opera Mini.

Fans across Europe and Africa will face late-evening and midnight kick-offs throughout the tournament hosted in the Americas, while much of Asia will be watching in the early morning hours. Loving football calls for some sacrifices – 87% of respondents plan to stay up past midnight to watch some of the matches. But no fan can do that for every game. For those who miss out, Opera for Android offers a dedicated football hub that brings together live match statistics and an AI-powered news feed.

“By providing football fans with instant access to live scores along with a more considered design, we ensure they are never more than a single tap away from the action, even when they can’t watch it live”, said Tim Lesnik, Product Manager at Opera Mobile.

Opera’s survey found that 63% of respondents follow football all year round. When it comes to updates, 50% prefer a browser or app, far ahead of YouTube highlights (18%) or social media (12%) — and 19% already rely on Opera for Android to stay in the loop. Spectacle and entertainment top the list of what fans value most, cited by 37% of respondents. The findings highlight that web browsers are still a major way highly engaged fans access football. In the United States, home to an estimated 62 million fans, 47% prefer using just a browser over dedicated apps to follow the games.
