OS
Windows 11 Pro
Background, my OS install is an upgrade from 7/8/10/11 (as much as I would like a clean install I have to keep upgrading because of recording studio plug ins that are no longer available).

Edge is picking up an old Internet Explorer Bookmarks. Doing a search for "Bookmarks" I only find the current Edge Bookmarks and Bookmarks.bak. I can delete those two files, start Edge and no Bookmarks but within about 20 seconds the old I.E. Bookmarks are imported. Same way I deleted the two Bookmarks files and replaced them with valid ones from my Windows insider installation (dual boot) and when I start Edge it still uses the old I.E. Bookmarks. A while back an Edge update triggered the problem.

I have a Macrium disc image and if I restore that image with correct Bookmarks, Edge update brings back the incorrect Bookmarks.

Need a way to nuke the old/incorrect Bookmarks.

Edge is set to not sync, but that doesn't matter for the Bookmarks.

If you know for sure Edge is not syncing (settings>profiles>sync>)
First delete old IE favorites but not the folder. C:\Users(username)\Favorites\
Then delete all the Edge bookmarks. They should stay deleted since the old IE favorites are no longer on your computer.

UPDATE: Deleted Favorites and Edge Bookmarks. No change, still using old Bookmarks/Favorites.

If you have deleted them both but they come back, then you are syncing Edge . Try this.
1. Go to Edge settings. Under profiles "Your Profile" what does it say? Are you signed into edge?
2. Expand SYNC. Toggle everything to OFF.
3. Sign out of Edge.
4. Delete bookmarks again. Close Edge.
4. Log completely out and back into your computer.
5. Open Edge again. Are bookmarks still gone?

Worked!
Signing out of Edge, apparently, was the key. Sync for Favorites was off. Deleted Bookmarks and copied over correct Bookmarks from the Insider install. Same with Favorites.

I guess I'll know what to do the next time I get an Edge update and it screws it up again.

Thanks/Jack
