Windows 11 ( Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.3476) )
I know, I know why am I running Outlook 2010 on my New Windows 11 machine? I really like the interface, the clear intuitive black and white screens, and just like a simple no frills email program. I have been using Outlook since 1998 and the newer versions, in my opinion are a mess compared to the older ones..

Anyway the Outlook 2010 installed without a hitch and works perfect with the exception of an error message pops up when I load it.
The message says "Identity Switch Canceled - The current Identity could not be changed..." I can just close the message and everything works correctly otherwise.
I imagine not many people using Windows 11 are trying to run Outlook 2010 on their machines so finding a resolve will probably be really hard. But I'll never know unless i give it a shot.
Any help here to stop this message from popping up would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

Hi, Dave, welcome.

This is a very old fix and may not still be relevant. I had to use it a very long time ago. Proceed cautiously. If the correct USER ID is already present & correct, then this isn’t the right fix.

Thank you for your quick response and help.
Here is a copy of what my register says. I don't know if this identifies a correct User Id as I am not that computer savvy on the register?
I know "how" to edit the register, but not the correct formats to do it. If this isn't the correct user ID Can you tell me how to correct it? If it is the correct user ID then I guess nothing I can do. Thank you again for your help..... Dave

Hi, Dave. This fix won’t help.

The user id on the right matches the folder within the identities folder on the left, so that isn’t the issue.

Hey antspants (I assume this is your name on this site), again I really do appreciate the effort on helping me with this. Since this looks like a dead end so far, I am going to try installing Outlook 2013, which is the last version that resembles the original setup and see what happens.
Peace.... Dave

dacrone, The script would be awesome. I don't like the new MS Word, Outlook or Excel in 2016 versions and later.
I would really appreciate the script. I would have to have a basic idea on how to implement it. I would assume just run the script and the end would load the 2010 Outlook? Dave

yes, you would just run it (i will make it into an .exe). how long does it take that dialog to popup once outlook is launched? also - what is the titlebar label of that popup (and check task manager if it does not show a name please)?

The dialog pops up instantly after Outlook displays it's screen. Attached are The Error Message, The program location using Task Manager and the Outlook location link (The last link in the picture) I use to run Outlook. Thank you...

ok try this. i included what should be the 64 bit path and another for the 32 bit path as i wasnt sure which you had. i set it to launch:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE

if this is wrong for office 2010, let me know and i'll edit the path inside the script.

The Path is different. I posted the path in the Picture "Program location.Webp" above. It is 32 bit.

Worked perfect! I had not ever heard of ahk scripts before. I have done some programming in Pascal (I'm an old guy), Foxpro and the like. "C" is little to heavy for me.... If you don't mind, can I see the source code on how you did this? If you'd rather not, I totally understand. Anyway thank you for sharing your time to do this!

yeah no problem at all. you'd have to install autohotkey in order to compile the .ahk (which you just make in notepad and save with the .ahk extension instead of .txt):

Code:
run, C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE
Sleep, 200
WinWait, Identity Switch Cancelled
Sleep, 200
WinClose, Identity Switch Cancelled
Sleep, 200
return

also - since i now it was the 32bit, i renamed it to just Outlook.exe and recompiled it with the 2010 outlook icon for you. attached.

I will download the autohotkey and play with it. I assume in your code that what it instructs is:

(1) Run Outlook.exe
(2) Pause 200
(3) Wait for ID switch Canceled to load
(4) Pause 200
(5) Close ID switch Canceled popup
(6) Pause 200 and exit
If I'm close, if I change the Sleep 200 after the "WinClose, Identity Switch Cancelled command" to a lower number, say Winclose 50 or such, Would the popup disappear faster? Just curious....
