The photos app is giving pop up error "Photos Application Service Disconnected, The application service process disconnected and has been restarted" it does this constantly even after selecting "ok". Application was running fine until I moved 8K photos from Icloud to internal hard drive. I have Terminated, repaired, and reset the photos App, and restarted the computer. I have also logged out and logged back into iCloud photos. Error continues. (Screenshot below)

Thank you

Try moving those photos out from the directory that you copied them to and into another directory that is not monitored by photos, then see if Photos start behaving.

If it does, then try moving them back into that folder in small batches.

Also, are you using OneDrive to maintain a backup of your photos (\Pictures) folder?

I moved them, Reset the photos app, and restarted the computer. It was stable a little longer, but then the same error appeared. I selected ok a few times. Then when the iCloud photos bar is selected on the left, the iCloud photos window changes from showing the picture tiles to blank. the app will intermittently show the "Getting things ready" bar at the bottom, or a blank icloud photos pane.

I am not using one drive to back up photos. or store photos.

On a side note, I have 30K photos on iCloud. I am working to get those to this computer, and then delete out of the cloud. Does the quantity of photos in iCloud make a difference.

Are you trying to use the Photos app to move them? If so, can you try using Windows Explorer or some other file manager instead?

I doubt it's the Photo app itself that's issuing the error, but the app or device accessing the files. My question is are you accessing over the net or from your phone? Or, yes, OneDrive. If so, it could be a connection issue.

    This is my backup system.
I did try to use the photo app to move them. That likely started the problem. I then tried in Windows explorer, and was getting errors. I read in an apple support forum that I can only copy them from iCloud to a new folder (Older versions I could move them no problem) Just got this computer (Win 11 ) last week. I uninstalled icloud, uninstalled photos app, and am now letting it resync. We shall see if this helps.
I am accessing on the computer. My internet top speed is only 20Mbps (Country life) so I will walk away for a bit and let it do its thing

I gave up. Maybe just too many photos in icloud
